Celoteh Kepten Shafari - Public Holidays!

Captain Shafari

Salam to all,

Malaysia won her first AFF Suzuki Cup. Well done! But whats a big deal with it? It is played among ASEAN countries... not Asian countries. So to be the best amongst 11 countries is nothing to shout about.. Indonesia, Phillipines, Myanmar, Cambodia, Singapore, Vietnam, Thailand, Brunei, Laos and Timor Leste... and most of these countries are not even heard before in the soccer world when the late Mokhtar Dahari, Soh Chin Aun, Santokh Singh, Shukor Salleh and their gang were playing excellent football and were the kings of Asia. Yeah... Malaysia was really good then, even managed to beat South Korea and Japan and became envy of other nations. So we were top of Asia then.

And now both Japan and South Korea are at par with many top European countries and they were in 2nd round of 2010 World Cup!! For Malaysian soccer.... our declared a public holiday just because we won Suzuki cup. What a joke. Let us all laugh to it first.

In other words, the failure of FAM all these while was rewarded by a National public holiday!! Isnt it a joke of the year?? Come on guys... these politicians are trying to play a Houdini and not to fall into their cunning trap... to divert our attention from the more important, serious and urgent matters. They are letting us to bask in the artifical "glory".

And pls dont get me wrong... I am all for the resurrection of Malaysian soccer but then should we Malaysians be rewarded by a public holiday? Hello.. does he realise that how much money is wasted to have a public holiday, even on the last day of the year where most are on holidays? As wage earners, yes we all are too happy but to the country's economy, it created a dent and there sure to be a spillover reactions.

But overall, Malaysian sports performed extremely well for 2010. We are world's best in badminton, squash and cycling. We garnered more golds and medals in Commonwealth and Asian Games. We outdid our neighbours and we are gaining more recognition. The world is taking notice of our rise. We can and we are capable of being there among the elite. Malaysia BOLEH!!

And I can proudly say that Famemas is one of the main contributing factors in our sports' renaissance. Over the years since the Busan games, Famemas were at most sports and games. It somehow has led other Malaysians in believing and support our sportsmen. We built up the feelings of cheering for Malaysia and now there are many cheering groups. Look at Bukit Jalil stadium on 26 Dec and one would notice there were not less than 15-20 cheering groups. They were not heard and even seen before. So, SYABAS Famemas... you have done your part and you should keep on going... passing this passionate "passtime' to the younger generations along the way.

And HAPPY NEW YEAR to all. May the almighty God bless all of us. Amin.

Congrats & well done

Dato' Zolkples Embong

Thanks and well done Lee. Very good remark by you. Yes 2010 is The Year of Malaysian Sports. We have achieved practically everything. Last night was really an icing of the cake. You and your Famemas have help our athletes a lot especially to bring up their spirit.

I agreed with you that our supporters need to behave better. I really respect Indonesian supporters last night. They were very sporting. Imagine 95,000 inside the stadium and more than that figure outside watching big screens. Nothing bad happened. We were drowned in the sea of reds. Of course it was very scary and we did not go out until it was very clear.

Their players were very sporting too. They did not apply dirty tactics and showed their true sportmanship.

Whatever it is, credit must be given to our boys for enduring all those pressure. Like the one that I have undergone in Delhi and Guangzhou. I always say that our team is a handicapped team without at least 8 regulars. But they show their spirit and dedication.

We are very happy with this year's performance. Best ever since I joined NSC in 1984. This will motivate us to work even harder. Thanks to you all. My regard to all Famemas members. Will fly back to KL this evening. Need to have a good rest.

Cheers.

Dato Zol.

Congrats & well done

Mr Lee Hui Seng aka Mr. Famemas

Dear all,

Ucapan Tahniah! Congrats & well done, MALAYSIA for lifting Suzuki Cup for 1st time in 14 years!!We are certainly proud to be Malaysians again! Now for World Cup&Olympics Qualifiers to take on the World!Tonite is only the start of the journey.Malam ini adalah satu permulaan saja dalam perjalanan kita terus memartabatkan kegemilangan dan ketahap kecemerlangan sukan...

We may have won AFF Suzuki Cup and convinced PM Najib to declare a Public Holiday on 31 Dec 2010, but we need to educate some of our fans on general behavioural etiquette in stadiums eg not throwing litter everywhere and not creating tension between neighbourly but friendly nations,by pointing lasers at opposing players...

Its been a long, long time since we last witnessed a public outpouring of passion, support and fervent cheering by our fans.I still remember as a 14 year old kid in 1978, there was no internet,no live matches on TV,only radio commentary by RTM Radio, but I would huddle around the radio to listen to live broadcasts of our exploits against South Korea, and I could remember every single player from the goal keeper to the forward line, from Arumugam to the back four comprising of Soh Chin Aun, Santokh Singh, Abdah Alif, Yunus Alif, then the 2 stout midfielders Wong Choon Wah and Shukor Salleh to frontliners Mokhtar Dahari, James Wong, Hassan Sani and Isa Bakar. In those days, its 1Malaysia all the way, not only 1Malaysia in terms of the composition of players, but also 1Malaysia in terms of the composition of the fans.Let's have more non Malays watching our football and sepak takraw matches involving Malaysia team.and let's have more Malays watching badminton and basketball matches involving Malaysian team. Let's keep it going.

I am all in favour of media stirring up this passion and working up the masses by writing articles in media on topics like 'Roles supporters play in development of sports in the country.'I have seen how Koreans as Red Devils travel round the world to support their soccer team. all using their own pocket money. That's what sheer volunteerism, patriotism and passion for sports is all about, without being asked to do the necessary...

If we, a nation of 27 million, are to harbour any genuine hopes to organize the ultimate 'Mother of all Sports events' aka Asian Games and Olympics, we must drill into the heads of our fans that fairplay and winning through gracious virtues is the order of the day. Gone should be the days when we shoot laser light into opponents' eyes...

Malaysia Boleh!!

Terima Kasih, Syabas Ultras Malaya!
