Famemas Gears Up The Korat SEA Games

Kuala Lumpur, 4 December 2007 - The National Hockey Stadium at Bukit Jalil came to a near standstill as the all-familliar "Famemas Roar" was heard ioud and clear in support of Malaysia in their opening macth against Australia in the SAMSUNG Champions Trophy men's hockey tournament.
Never mind the 2-0 defeat to the world no 1 and reining Olympic as the home team, currently ranked 15th in the world, played gallantly to frustrate the fancied Australians who are among the favourites along with defending champions Netherlands and world champions Germany in the 11-days tournament.
The heavy downpour before the Malaysia - Australia macth did not deter the Famemas members from coming in full force to support Malaysia. Over 80 members of the Famemas Supporters Club, in their familiar blue and yellow outfits, stole the limelight with their lively and symmetrical vocal support - Go Malaysia Go! and Malaysia Boleh! - in cheering the host team.
The prestigios SAMSUNG Champions Trophy features eight top ranked countries - Spain, Korea, Pakistan and Great Britain - along with the Nethelands, Germany, Australia and Malaysia.
"This is the first time we are cheering Malaysia in a major hockey tournament and we hope our presence and support will spur our national team to strive harder in the SAMSUNG Champions Trophy," said Kelab Famemas Kuala Lumpur dan selangor Chairman, Lee Hui Seng.
"It is also a good traning session for the Famemas members, particularly the newly recruited ones who are eager to lend their vocal support fo Malaysia in the biennial games" he added.
SAMSUNG and the Famemas Supporters Club jointly carried out a contest in October to encourage the public to join the club and cheer Malaysia at the SEA Games, Participants had to answers three sports-realated questions and write a creative slogan.
"The response to our contest is very encouraging and we have picked 40 deserving winners to join Famemas for the Korat SEA Games," Mr. Lee said.
SAMSUNG initiated the Famemas Supporters Group in 2002, offering Malaysians a platform to cheer and support Malaysia at various and major sporting events at home and abroad.
With the SAMSUNG sponsorship, the Famemas Supporters Club has provided the Malaysia Boleh! support in major competitions, including the Busan Asia Games in 2002, SEA Games (2003 and 2005) the Olympic Games in Athens.
