Condolence

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to the family of the late Master Chew Teik Seong, who passed away peacefully at Pusat Perubatan University Malaya on 11th March 2011, one month and 11 days short of his 73rd birthday.

The late Master Chew was born on 22nd April 1938, as the second son of eight children to a shopkeeper and a housewife in a very small village called Behrang Station in Perak, Malaysia. Upon completion of his Senior Cambridge school certificate, he chose to undergo a teacher-training course. His decision not to join the family business was met with protests by his parents. They eventually saw his determination and lovingly gave their support to his efforts.

He spent three years as an active trainee teacher, majoring in English Language. His college days were his happiest days, as he engaged in sports and various outdoor activities. During a short stint in the Eastern Coast state of Terengganu (which coincidently was where the 1994 World Championships were held), he represented the state in basketball and the district in soccer.

Due to his active participation in sports, he was selected to attend the Specialist Teachers’ Training Institute (STTI) for a Physical and Health Education course in 1967, where he experienced his first exposure to Taekwon-Do.

After his training course, he was posted back to a secondary school where he proved to be a popular teacher in school. His outstanding work paid off as he was soon appointed to be a lecturer of Physical and Health Education in 1974 and was posted to the Sultan Idris Teachers’ Training College, where he became the adviser of the inaugural Taekwon-Do club there. This was the beginning of a long history of his Taekwon-Do career.

The late Master Chew had a long and distinguished career with the International Taekwondo Federation (ITF). From 1976 to the time of his demise, he was the Instructor of International Taekwon-Do Academy, Tanjong Malim. In 1978, he participated in the 2nd World Taekwon-Do Championship held in Oklahoma, USA. From 1989 to 2000, he was the President of Perak State Taekwon-Do Association. In 1993/94, he was appointed Secretary of Tournament and Technical Committee of the 9th World Taekwon-Do Championship, held in Kuala Terenganu. In 1999, the late Master Chew was elected President of International Taekwon-Do Federation Malaysia (ITFM), Chief of delegate of Malaysian team at the 11th ITF World Championship in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On 21st November 1999, he was promoted to 7th Dan (M-7-5) by General Choi Hong Hi.

Unfortunately, he was diagnosed of nose and throat cancer in 1988 and from then on, it has been a long battle against the disease and he had to limit many of his favourite past times with the exception of Taekwon-Do. Master Chew’s pride is his family – he and his beloved wife have four children – two boys and a pair of twin girls. They are his strongest supporters to keep him going in whatever activities he is involved in. He has four lovely grandchildren, too.
(Note: The above was written by the late Mr. Chew’s son)

Farewell Message of Encik Clement Soo, on his retirement as Secretary General of Makaf and Vice President of AKF

This will be my last e-mail as the Secretary General of Makaf and Vice President of AKF. It has been a very pleasant journey for me, lasting 33 years and I have enjoyed every moment with Makaf and AKF. Alas no matter how pleasant the journey is, it must come to an end. It is with a tinge of sadness that I am leaving the organizations where I spent nearly half my life.

Over the many years I have encountered many problems and the most difficult ones are those relating to People. Each and everyone of us has our own idiosyncrasy, our own ideology, our own way of doing things. I have had differences with my colleagues and even heated arguments over work but I have confined these incidents to the work situation and not let it become personal. Confucius said, “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”, and I have tried my best to follow this adage in my relationships. I have always believed in “Compromise” rather than “Confrontation” in my dealings and this has stood me well. “To be successful one must be able to work with people and getting their supports”.

To the majority of you, I am just an e-mail address, to some I am a Voice over the phone or an Acquaintance or a friend. Whoever you are, wherever you may be I wish you all the best in Life. I bid you “Auf Wiedersehen”, till we meet again, Good Luck and Good Health.

Clement Soo
Dated 9th March 2011.

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish Encik Clement Soo a happy and peaceful retirement.

Badminton: Malaysia's Lee wins All-England Open men's singles title

BIRMINGHAM, United Kingdom: Lee Chong Wei successfully defended his All-England Open men's singles title when he beat his greatest rival, Lin Dan, the Olympic champion from China, 21-17, 21-1 in Sunday's final.

The top-seeded Malaysian's triumph came as a surprise to many people, for Lin had beaten Lee in three games at the world's first million dollar tournament, the Korean Open, in January.

That was the Chinese legend's 15th success in 22 encounters with Lee, and he had seemed back to somewhere near his best.

But this time Lin rarely tried the fierce airborne attacks for which he has become famous, and Lee's superb movement and excellent shuttle control in the resulting game of cat-and-mouse proved marginally superior.

The defeat means Lin failed to achieve a fifth All-England Open title, which would have been a unique achievement in the open era. The next All-England, not long before the 2012 Olympics, will be his last before his retirement.

"I played safe today - I didn't go for the points at all," Lee said.

"But I was mentally strong this time."

He immediately got a call from Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak, who told him "good job".

It became evident that Lee might score a famous victory soon after the interval in the first game, when he surged from 11-10 to 17-10 and looked well in control at 18-12.

Some of the rallies were flat and fast, but many of them involved probing clears, lifts and drops, and clever manoeuvring. It was not till the second game that Lin tried to apply much force with his overhead.

However he got back to 17-18 thanks to wonderful accuracy and consistency, and at that moment it seemed that Lee might be wobbling mentally.

But Lin unaccountably tried a clipped drop which fell too short and found the net, and that reduced the psychological pressure on his edgy opponent immensely.

Lee concluded that game with a squall of smashes and hurtled to a lead of 8-2 in the second game. It was then that Lin tried a few of his once-famous aerial bombardments, getting ceilingwards and levering the shuttle down more steeply.

But they were intermittent efforts, and gradually the match slipped back into its cagey patterns once Lin had got back on even terms.

From 17-all Lee made his final push. A disguised return and smash got him the lead again, an overhead drop got him to 19-17, and an amazing block winner from point blank range got him to match point which he converted when Lin was pressured into switching a net shot sacross court and narrowly wide.

"It didn't work out as well as I thought," said Lin. "I made more errors than usual."

Earlier the top-seeded Wang Shixian regained the women's singles title for China, earning it for the seventh time in ten years for the sport's leading nation.

Wang did that with a 24-22, 21-18 victory in a fine final over Eriko Hirose, the Japanese player who attracted admiration and sympathy for her unseeded progress to the showdown.

Wang's speed about the court and experience of big finals - she was winner of the Malaysian Open and a finalist in the Korean Open.

She did not panic when the determined Hirose pulled back a five-game first game deficit and held game points at 20-19 and 21-20.

Had Hirose sneaked either of those pivotal points, much may have been different.

"I knew it was crucial to win those," said Wang.

China however won the women's and mixed doubles - through Yu Yang and Wang Xiaoli, and Xu Chen and Ma Lin respectively.

Xu and Ma won 21-13, 21-9 against Sudket Prapakamol and Sarale Thoungthongkam, the first Thai players in the finals for almost 50 years.

Denmark won the men's doubles when Mathias Boe and Carsten Mogensen, who missed four match points in last year's final, came from 11-6 down in the final game to win 15-21, 21-18, 21-18 against Koo Kien Keat and Tan Boon Heong, the world silver medallists from Malaysia.

Men's singles final:
Lee Chong Wei (MAS) bt Lin Dan (CHN) 21-17, 21-17

Men's doubles final:
Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN) bt Koo Kien Keat/Tan Boon Heong (MAS) 15-21, 21-18, 21-18

Women's singles final:
Wang Shixian (CHN) bt Eriko Hirose (JPN) 24-22, 21-18

Women's doubles final:
Yu Yang/Wang Xiaoli (CHN) bt Mizuki Fujii/Reika Kakiiwa (JPN) 21-2, 21-9

Mixed doubles final:
Xu Chen/Ma Lin (CHN) bt Sudket Prapakamol/Saralee Thoungthongkam (THA) 21-13, 21-9

CELOTEH-VERSATILE AS YOU

Salam 1 Malaysia to all of you....

Where have you all see this wordings, "Versatile as you"?

The answer.... On the plate number of most Perodua Alza MPVs. I wrote on "kereta juga MPV " for Alza on my another Celoteh serie but this wordings really made me feel easy... though being caught in the traffic jam... I just need to trail any Alza during bumper to bumper crawl and that words will make anyone feel nice. To the guy who initiated this... Thank you Bro... you did a wonderful job.

Captain Celoteh.

Bro? yeah.. it is sure to be a man's idea. Sorry Girls... not that I look down upon the fairer sex but man has the capability to seduce people with their correct words at the correct times... especially playboys or casanovas. Betul kan?

And the next time if you are caught in a traffic jam... just get behind the back of an Alza... and just follow it for 5-10 minutes... read the words and then try to relate it with what you had done for the day (if on your way back home) and just plan for what you are going to do for the day ( on your way to the office) .. and then you will definitely smile cos yeah.. you too are just as versatile as any other successful people. So frens... Perodua has got something extra to get the masses' attention. Those simple words meant a great thing, if you think positively.

So thinking positively is what one needs to survive on this ever challenging planet. And what a big deal that MU lost to Chelsea or Liverfools? So what? MU is the envy of all misguided fans of EPL. Yeah... MU fans are those who have that extra grey matter... they are smart. Why put yourself is a cooking pot just because of sports? It will not really affect our future. So what if you were to support the always winning team like MU? It makes you to enjoy and feel happy when MU wins and if MU were to lose... so what? There is always a chance next time. Sorry guys... please support MU cos that is the only team that is always winning and they do it in style... ADA GAYA kata orang-orang kita.

And if MU were to lose... then there are always some reasons to make us happy too. Just look back at the match with Chelsea... Abrahamnovich's team should not be awarded with a penalty but in just a few minutes after the game started... John Terry should be red carded when he blocked the shot with his arm... and then Luiz should be given the marching orders too when he blocked Rooney... So MU should have won on that night, right? And against Liverfool, I must admit that without Vidic and Ferdinand, the defence is very porous but then Carragher should be kicked out when he injured Nani with a very rough tackle. And MU could have won too right?

kah kah kah kah... ole ole ole... MU BOLEH!!

To Si Dia... please just stop admiring the handsome players of Arsenal or the tough guys of Chelsea... tak payah lah.... come and sit besides me and let us cheer for MU, the winning players and the team that has the Championship DNA.

Ok guys... I got to start working. Got a meeting at 9 am.

To Si Dia... so you went for a carnaval in Rio?

Naza Rio.. I meant? What ever it is... you are my lady. I missed you.

To all, take care and bye.

capt... my apology to all Famemas members for failing to attend the AGM

Teks Ucapan Pengerusi Famemas di AGM 2011

Ucapan dari Pengerusi Famemas, En. Lee Hui Seng.

We need to reach out to more Malaysians who are keen and passionate on sports.

Let’s exploit the power of social media to the fullest, make sports stars your friends and you can give them the support not only in the stadiums but also in cyberspace. Inilah satu dimensi baru ala Famemas!

Sports unites all Malaysians and is the best cure for racial harmony.

Terimakasih dan selamat tengahari....
