2nd Asian Koi Open Karate Championship 2008
Congratulations to the Malaysia Karate Federation (MAKAF) and the Organising Committee for successfully organization of the 2nd Asian KOI Open Karate Championship on 20th and 21st December at Gymnasium 2, National Sports Council, Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur.
The Kobe Osaka International (KOI) was founded by Mr. Tommy Morris in 1991. The KOI Karate Championship is an international competition for junior Karate exponents at clubs level. Over 500 athletes, both male and female, from 19 countries participated in the 2nd Asian KOI Open Karate Championship. The Championship was divided into age groups for boys and girls 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 years, cadet category 14-15 years, junior category 16-17 years and senior category above 18 years.
FTAAA Young Talent Athletics Meet
The Federal Territory Amateur Athletes Association organized a very successful Young Talent Athletics Meet at the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium from 8.00 a.m. to 10.30 a.m. on 21st December 2008. Over 150 young athletes, supported by their parents, friends, siblings and coaches participated in the competitions, which was the third held in 2008.
The athletes competed in the under 16 years and under 12 years for boys and for girls. The young athletes displayed so much talent, enthusiasm and fighting spirit that it is very surprising to see championships at states and national levels, so poorly attended and supported. Something must be done to harness all these talents so that Malaysia can again be the leading country in athletics, not only in the SEA region but also in Asia.
Almost all the parent were concerned with the lack of proper training and coaching facilities in their children’s schools. The parents have to search around for public training centres (which are few and far in between) and to drive or send their children to such training centres. The parents also felt that there were shortage of such friendly competitions for their children and the lack of information on such competitions.
They expressed their appreciations to FTAAA and to MILO, who sponsored the medals and prizes and hope that more such competitions will be held. FTAAA took the initiative to record the email addresses of all the parents who have such facilities so that information of future competitions and other athletics news could be sent to them directly.
