RANJAU penuh berduri ciptaan Peter Gade dilepasinya untuk Lee Chong Wei hanya perlu menempuh satu lagi halangan dalam misi mengungguli gelaran Siri Super Terbuka Malaysia buat kali kelima dalam tempoh enam tahun di Stadium Putra, hari ini. Andai pameran aksi semalam jadi ukuran, Park Sung-hwan dari Korea Selatan yang bakal jadi lawan jelas harus dibelenggu resah kerana Chong Wei tampak sudah menemui rentak ketika melakarkan kemenangan 24-26, 21-17, 21-13 dalam tempoh 61 minit ke atas jaguh Denmark itu.

Lebih penting, dia sudah mengharungi perjalanan penuh sukar - kemenangan ketiga dalam pertentangan tiga set berturut-turut. Malah ketahanan dan kesabaran menongkah cabaran juga tampak sudah teruji sepenuhnya. “Saya harus akui bahawa saya terkejut pada awal permainan kerana Gade bijak mengubah pukulan. Saya memang tidak sangka dia mampu menghasilkan kelajuan aksi sebegitu. “Sudah lama saya tidak bersaing sengit dengannya seperti hari ini. Dia memang pemain berpengalaman tetapi hari ini, saya buktikan bahawa saya juga punya ketahanan mental yang lebih kuat,” tegas Chong Wei.

Memang bimbang itu ketara apabila Gade berjaya menang set pertama dalam tempoh 23 minit. Malah pada set kedua, jurang mata amat kecil - sehampir 17-16 - sebelum Chong Wei lebih sabar mengawal pukulan dan menanti peluang terbaik sebelum menyerang. Hasilnya, dia menang selepas 19 minit untuk memaksa set penentuan. “Pada set ketiga, saya beraksi lebih pantas dan dia jelas tidak mampu mengikutinya,” kata Chong Wei. Gade pula sekadar menggeleng kerana menyifatkan dia ada peluang untuk menang, cuma masih ada sedikit kekurangan untuknya terus dihantui kekecewaan. “Persembahan saya bagus. Saya ada peluang untuk menang. Malah saya letakkan Chong Wei dalam keadaan tertekan. Sayangnya tekanan itu tidak berterusan dan apabila menentang pemain seperti Chong Wei, jika diberi ruang, dia akan cepat kembali yakin dan memanfaatkannya,” akui Gade.

Sung-hwan menempah peluang bertentangan dengan Chong Wei selepas mudah menewaskan pemain Taiwan, Hsieh Yu Hsin 21-13, 21-14 dalam satu lagi separuh akhir. Final perseorangan wanita menyaksikan pemain Denmark, Tine Rasmussen akan cuba mempertahankan gelarannya menentang pilihan utama dari Hong Kong, Zhou Mi. Juara bertahan beregu lelaki, Markis Kido-Hendra Setiawan bagaimanapun tumpas kepada gandingan senegara, Alvent Yulianto-Hendra Gunawan yang akan melayan Jung Jae-sung-Lee Young-dae dari Korea Selatan.

Wong Pei Tty dan Chin Eei Hui pula tumbang buat kali ke-11 berturut-turut kepada beregu veteran China, Yang Wei-Zhang Jiewen ketika Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong sengsara ditumpaskan lawan dari Korea Selatan, Jung Jae Sung-Lee Young Dae, malam tadi.

Lantas, seperti biasa, harapan kini terpaksa digalas bersendirian oleh pemain utama negara, Lee Chong Wei yang kian menghampiri matlamat merangkul gelaran kelima Terbuka Malaysia dalam tempoh enam tahun selepas mengungguli pertentangan tiga set ke atas lawan dari Indonesia, Simon Santoso.

"Saya belum sampai ke tahap terbaik mampu dihasilkan. Tetapi ujian getir dijelmakan Simon adalah sesuatu yang bagus kerana ia memberi peluang untuk saya cuba menangani tekanan dalam situasi genting," katanya.

Kejayaan 21-15, 16-21, 21-11 miliknya itu adalah kemenangan tiga set kedua berturut-turut, selepas dia sebelumnya mengatasi lawan dari Vietnam, Nguyen Tien Minh - juga menerusi cara sama. "Saya harap penyokong akan hadir untuk terus menyokong saya, walaupun hanya saya sahaja tinggal di saingan separuh akhir. Saya akan cuba pastikan bendera Malaysia terus tegak berdiri pada Terbuka Malaysia di gelanggang sendiri," tegasnya.

Daren pula akur betapa jurang di antaranya dengan Gade jelas ketara ketika dipaksa menelan pahitnya kekecewaan kecundang 12-21, 14-21.

MOM, MSN wajar akhiri sengketa

Usaha menyediakan atlit ke Sukan Sea yang hanya 11 bulan lagi harus diutamakan

'PERGESERAN' antara Majlis Olimpik Malaysia (MOM) dan Majlis Sukan Negara (MSN) jelas tarikan paling menarik memasuki tahun baru 2009 ini. Ia ibarat bola yang melantun daripada satu sudut ke sudut berbeza yang berterusan tanpa henti.

MSN meluahkan cadangan supaya Sukan Sea di Laos hujung tahun ini ditandingi atlit-atlit pelapis negara - pendirian yang diputuskan menerusi mesyuarat Lembaga Pengurus MSN.

Kemudiannya, Datuk Sieh Kok Chi bingkas menegaskan cadangan sebegitu tidak boleh dilakukan, kerana barisan atlit terbaik negara sepatutnya dihantar untuk temasya serantau itu.

Isu itu kemudiannya disertai Menteri Belia dan Sukan, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, yang 'menempelak' Kok Chi kerana mendakwa ada wakil MOM, Low Beng Choo, ketika mesyuarat itu dan dia juga sudah menyatakan persetujuan.

Tetapi Kok Chi nampaknya punya 'senjata' lebih ampuh - menerusi ketetapan Lembaga MOM yang empat tahun sebelumnya - sudahpun memutuskan bahawa temasya Sukan Sea bukan untuk tempat pendedahan atlit.

Penulis tidak mahu menyebelahi mana-mana pihak. Apa yang penting adalah fakta.

Perkara pokok yang jelas mungkin tidak disedari MSN adalah terdapatnya had kelayakan yang perlu diatasi. Tidak kira sama ada ia atlit elit atau pelapis, jika mereka melepasi had itu, maka sudah ada tiket buat mereka.

Penulis juga percaya apa yang dimaksudkan MSN dengan atlit pelapis adalah daripada kelompok elit remaja, bukannya mereka yang terlalu mentah.

Bagi penulis, tidak ada ertinya pentas pendedahan jika atlit tidak tahu menggunakan peluang itu untuk menimba ilmu, kecuali sekadar mahu bergesel bahu dengan atlit handalan negara lain tapi 'kecut perut' di gelanggang.

Lagipun, ada antara atlit muda berkenaan sudah mendapat pendedahan awal menerusi Sukan Universiti Asean, bulan lalu, walaupun ada yang masuk mengikut 'pintu belakang' pada ketika penganjur ghairah 'sanggup melakukan apa sahaja' kerana mahu negara muncul juara keseluruhan - sesuatu yang tidak harus kita persalahkan Laos apabila kita sendiri 'menghalalkannya' di sini.

Tidak perlu penulis menamakan atlit terbabit pada kejohanan yang menyaksikan penyumbang pingat emas juga banyak datangnya daripada atlit elit dan pelapis negara, bukan yang betul-betul dilahirkan Majlis Sukan Universiti-universiti Malaysia (Masum).

Bagi penulis, bukan soal berapa pingat kita akan hilang di Laos yang harus ditekankan, biarpun ada pihak mendakwa langkah mahu menghantar atlit pelapis mampu dilihat sebagai alasan awal jika gagal mengulangi pencapaian 68 emas di Sukan Sea Korat pada 2006.

Apa yang penting ketika ini adalah MSN dan MOM sama-sama memastikan ada usaha untuk mendapatkan emas menerusi sukan yang kekal dipertandingkan di Laos, bukan menangisi apa yang hilang, apa lagi ia bukan sesuatu yang pasti.

Malah, dengan pengurangan acara daripada 43 acara sukan di Korat kepada 25 di Laos, ia seharusnya menjadi satu hikmah kepada MSN dan MOM apabila hanya perlu memberi tumpuan khusus kepada jumlah sukan yang lebih kecil.

Ia bukan tidak pernah berlaku. Malah Sukan Sea di Brunei pada 1999 turut mempertandingkan 21 acara sukan berbanding jumlah 34 acara ketika Sukan Sea Jakarta 1977 sebelumnya.

Pungutan 57 emas di Brunei ketika itu dianggap pencapaian terbaik negara di luar negara dalam temasya Sukan Sea sebelum memperbaikinya di Korat.

Jadi, penulis berharap sangat jika kedua-dua pihak dapat melupakan sengketa itu, sebaliknya memikirkan usaha menyediakan atlit ke temasya itu ketika ia hanya berbaki 11 bulan lagi.

Penulis percaya peminat sukan boleh menerima jika atlit elit memilih mengetepikan Sukan Sea selepas tidak lagi dicabar di peringkat Asia Tenggara, tapi jika tahap terendah sukan serantau itu tidak mampu ditawan, jangan pula memasang angan yang terlalu tinggi pula.

Pokoknya, maruah negara tetap perlu dipertahankan di Sukan Sea.

Happy New Year.

J Lo sent me a New Year wish, more or less, "it is the wish of renewing old habits". You are 100% right J Lo. Memang betul!!

Yeah.. every new year eves we made our wish and somehow by 30-40 or latest by 100 days later... we are back to our old habits. Only few, very few that managed to keep their wishes/promises. Me? So far I cant keep to my wishes yet... and this year, it is just a few days passed and I think I'll be back to my normal self after the next few days... hehehe I am just trying to tell the truth... cos I am just an ordinary man like all of us.

Oh yes.. Guys.. Malaysian Open is back. I've cleaned my drum. I've repaired the horns and I am looking forward to be in Putra Stadium comes Friday. Malaysia Boleh!! It is ringging in my head.

"The stadium is packed and they are enjoying our drum's and horns' beat. They are doing the Mexican waves after waves and the players are giving their best." Well.. hope these expectations are there this weekend. It can be done if there are many Famemas members were to turn up. So guys... please make yourselves available at the stadium from Friday to Sunday. Just treat it as a gathering... to meet old friends.

I am hoping that our members in Johore do turn up... Sayed Faisal "the botak", Carrot and those who were at JB stadium for the ABC last year. Tengku Muhammad (the petani guy) and Premnath are coming too. I'll try to bring a few of  'pancing kakis'. And to J Lo, Philo and gang... I'll promise that I keep my mouth shut.. no more telling to the whole stadium that J Lo tak mandi..hehehe So..please come ok. Yeah.. the tickets are expensive but then we are going to make it worth..every sen of it. And I think Ayu is coming all the way from over the causeway... banyak jauh lor. Jadi kepada yang dekat tu... sila lah datang... meramaikan serta menjayakan.. dan memperlihatkan bahawa Famemas masih kental, kuat dan bersemangat waja. Yahooo.... Famemas BOLEH!!

But then.. the invasion of the Isrealis into Gaza is very disturbing in deed. More than 500 were killed and there were children, women and the old people... innocent people. what Isreal is trying to proof? Or is it that they are staring to start the 3WW? Or to divert the world's attention from the economic fiesco that the world is facing now? Or is it that they are just doing their part to increase the oil prices and hence to bolster up the economy?? The jews know it better but please not at the expense of innocent kids. Please stop it! Mr Obama, please try to stop this genocide. You promise to have a peaceful world and now is the time for you to keep up to your promise... please.

I am trying... I am getting darker.. not that dark as our aneh but it is still darker because too much of being in the hot sun.. fishing. I've been fishing everyday since 24th Dec till yesterday.. a stretch of 11 days.. sometimes more than 6 hours per day. Just yesterday, I was fishing from midnight till 3 pm.. 15 hours!. I am crazy. I think I am. hehehe.

This ongoing "fights' between OCM and MSN on participants and number of sports and games of the coming Laos Sea Games... I think it is not good at all. They should settle it in the meeting room rather than spilling it in the public. It shows lack of professionalism on both sides. To Datuk Sieh and Dato Zukefles... come on.. please settle it amicably for the sake of Malaysian sports.

Sports Programme of the 25th SEA Games 2009

There have been some erroneous reporting by the media on the sports programme of the 25th SEA Games to be held in Vientiane, Laos, from 9th to 18th December 2009. The mistakes have caused some confusion among the national sports associations and others. At the last SEA Games Federation Council meeting held in Vientiane, on 13th November 2008, the final list of sports and events was approved and announced. The 25th SEA Games will have 25 sports and 390 events. However, the 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee had wrongly included Soft Tennis as part of Tennis. This is incorrect because Soft Tennis is a separate and different sport from Tennis, under different International Federations. Hence there are 26 sports and 390 events and not 25 sports and 390 events as announced by the 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee.

There are reports that Archery, Cycling and Weightlifting are not in the 25th SEA Games Programme. This in incorrect, as the above three sports have been included. For Archery, there are a total of 8 events, 4 more than the Olympic Games, as the 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee has included Compound Bows for team and individuals for men and for women. Track Cycling has been dropped as Laos does not have a velodrome, but Road Cycling and Mountain Bikes have been included with a total of 8 events, 4 for men and 4 for women. 

From 1959 to 1985, the maximum number of sports in the SEAP/SEA Games was only 18. From 1987, the restriction on the maximum number of sports and events in the SEA Games was lifted and the number of sports and events since then are as follows: 26 sports and 348 events in the 1987 Jakarta SEA Games, 24 sports and 302 events in the 1989 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, 28 sports and 326 events in the 1991 Manila SEA Games, 29 sports and 317 events in the 1993 Singapore SEA Games, 28 sports and 334 events in the 1995 Chiang Mai SEA Games, 34 sports and 430 events in the 1997 Jakarta SEA Games, 21 sports and 230 events in the 1999 Brunei SEA Games, 32 sports and 392 events in the 2001 Kuala Lumpur SEA Games, 32 sports and 444 events in the 2003 Vietnam SEA Games, 40 sports and 444 events in the 2005 Philippine SEA Games and 43 sports and 477 events in the 2007 Korat SEA Games. Thus the 26 sports and 390 events which have been included in the 25th SEA Games, are not the lowest number of sports and events in the SEA Games.

On the question of whether the sports selected for the 25th SEA Games is fair or not, it would be appropriate to compare the 25th SEA Games sports programme with that of the 1999, 2001 and 2003 SEA Games, as the number of sports in the four SEA Games are quite close. 

The sports which have been dropped from the 1999 SEA Games are Basketball, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Squash, Tenpin Bowing, and Traditional Boat Race (6), while the sports that have been added are Archery, Judo, Fin Swimming, Muay, Petanque, Soft Tennis, Shuttlecock, Volleyball, Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu (11) 

The sports which have been dropped from the 2001 SEA Games are Basketball, Equestrian Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Lawn Bowls, Netball, Rowing, Sailing, Squash and Tenpin Bowling, (11), while the sports that have been added are Fin Swimming, Muay, Soft Tennis, Shuttlecock and Wrestling (5) 

The sports which have been dropped from the 2003 SEA Games are Basketball, Bodybuilding, Canoe, Chess, Fencing, Gymnastics, Handball, Rowing, and Traditional Boat Race (9), while the sports that have been added are Golf, Muay and Soft Tennis (3).

From the above the popular Olympic programme sports which have been dropped are: Basketball, Canoe, Equestrian, Fencing, Gymnastics, Hockey, Rowing and Sailing, while the popular non-Olympic programme sports are Squash and Tenpin Bowling. 

The main reasons of the 25th SEA Games dropping the above sports are as follows:

• There are no national sports associations in Laos of most, if not all of the above sports, such as Equestrian, Fencing, Hockey, Sailing, Squash, etc.;

• The sports are not played, competed or popular in Laos;

• There are no international sports facilities and equipment of these sports in Laos;

• There is no technical expertise to organized and manage the competitions;

• Laos is a developing country with a population of about 6.5 million, and as such it does not have the human and financial resources as well as supporting infrastructure, such as hotels, broadcast center, etc., to organize more than 25 sports;

• As a result of hosting the 25th SEA Games in 2009, a National Sports Complex, comprising an outdoor stadium, an indoor aquatics center, a tennis center, a rifle and pistol shooting range, a couple of indoor halls are under construction;

• Laos has included only 2 non main stream sports, Fin Swimming and Shuttlecock. Every past SEA Games hosts have done it. In fact Fin Swimming is quite a popular sport with regular World and Asian Championships. Please check Wikipedia for more details. 

• To optimize the use of the competition venues, the 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee has selected 8 out of the 26 sports are Martial Art sports, which can be organized in indoor halls, for two sports, one after the other;

• The claim that the exclusion of some of the sports in the 25 SEA Games programme would result in Malaysia losing 34 gold medals is incorrect. Based on the Malaysia’s gold medal tally from the 2001 to 2007 SEA Games, Malaysia will lose 44 gold medals out of 111 in 2001, 11 gold medals out of 43 gold medals in 2003, 21 gold medals out of 61 gold medals in 2005 and 26 gold medals out of 68 gold medals in 2007;

• Realistically, the actual number of gold medals lost is actually from Gymnastics and Tenpin Bowling, as the other sports, such as Equestrian, Hockey, and Lawn Bowls, Sailing and Squash are well beyond the capacity of Laos to host them. 

• In the case of Gymnastics, both Brunei Darussalam and Laos have not included the sport as it is too expensive and too complicated for small countries to organize and the probability of the sport not being practiced after the SEA Games is over. 

• In the case of Tenpin Bowling, there is no international recognized Tenpin Bowling venue in Vientiane. 

• In the case of Basketball and Water Polo, the 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee has agreed in principle for Philippine Olympic Committee to fund the Basketball competitions and the Singapore National Olympic Council to fund the Water Polo competitions of the 25th SEA Games. Once the details have been finalized, Basketball and Water Polo would be included. Of course, if agreement could not be reached, Basketball and Water Polo will be excluded. 

In conclusion, the following facts ought to be recognized:

1. The 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee has been fair in the selection of the 26 sports and 390 events for the 25th SEA Games.

2. The 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee has not taken advantage of being the host by selecting the sports in which Laos is strong, as irrespective of whatever sports are selected, Laos will not finish among the first five countries in the medal tally.

3. The sports dropped are based on the non-availability of international standards competitions venues and competitions equipments, non-existence of National Sports Association in Laos of a large number of sports, insufficient internationally qualified judges and technical officials, and insufficient human and financial resources. 

4. The 25th SEA Games Organizing Committee has followed the rules in the selection of the sports and events and there were no attempt to be unfair or to take advantage of being the host of the 25th SEA Games.

5. Every country in the SEA Games Federation will lose some medals because of the exclusion of some sports and Malaysia will not be the country which would be disadvantaged, any more than the other participating countries.

6. Unfortunately, statements have been made, by OCM officials and the media, which are not based on facts and this has caused concerns and confusion among the sports people and the National Sports Associations. 

7. As a founder member of the SEAP Games in 1959, Laos has finally decided to take up the challenge of hosting the SEA Games for the first time in 50 years. Being a small land-locked country with around 6.5 million people, Laos requires much support and encouragement from the more experienced and effluent member NOCs of the SEA Federation. 

The table below shows the sports which have been included in the past 5 SEA Games from 1999 to 2007 and the 2009 SEA Games. The table clearly shows that based on cultural, historical and economic background there cannot be a common acceptance of some sports (especially expensive sports), just because these sports are popular in the larger and more effluent countries.

Famemas Club Sunway Pyramid Bowling Event Report

Seramai 25 ahli-ahli Kelab Famemas menyertai Sessi Bowling Sekeluarga anjuran Kelab Famemas KL dan Selangor yang diadakan di Sunway Pyramid Bowl pada Sabtu 20hb December 2008 lalu. Acara ‘Pre-Christmas’ ini diadakan sempena Perayaan Hari Natal dan cuti sekolah akhir.

Permainan persahabatan ini juga terlibat 5 orang anak-anak yatim dari Rumah Penyayang Bakti Bandar Sri Damansara, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Kesemua ahli-ahli yang mengambil bahagian berasa gembira dan berharap acara sukan ini akan dianjurkan sekali lagi dalam tempuh masa yang terdekat.

Serentak dengan matlamat kelab sebagai satu kelab yang memberi sokongan padu moral kepada atlit kebangsaan, ahli-ahli yang hadir kelihatan memberi sokongan penuh kepada rakan rakan yang turut mengambil bahagian.

Beberapa keadaan lucu memberi kenangan manis, seperti kejatuhan en. Dorairaj semasa melepaskan bola bowling manakala kalangan peserta memberi tentangan hebat. Walaubagaimanapun, ahli-ahli sekumpulannya memberi sorakan penuh.

Secara tidak langsung, ahli-ahli yang hadir juga dapat menikmati prestasi handalan pemain pemain kebangsaan yang menyertai Kejohanan Milo Junior All Stars World Championships, yang diadakan di arena yang sama.

Selepas satu acara, peserta peserta dikehendaki bertukar lane untuk mengalakkan perhubungan erat silaturahim antara ahli ahli Kelab Famemas. Selepas bermain dua acara, ahli-ahli mengambil kesempatan untuk bersalam mesra sambil mengambil gambar kumpulan.

Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Penganjur acara bowling sekeluarga, David Foo yang juga Naib Pengerusi Kelab Famemas, berucap, "Kita akan mengadakan acara ini sekurang-kurangnya 3 kali setahun dan akan di adakan di merata rata lokasi di Lembah Klang untuk keselesaan ahli ahli kita yang tersinggah di seluruh Lembah Klang.Kita berharap lebih ramai ahli akan menyertai acara ini oleh kerana ini satu satunya sukan yang terlibat semua ahli,tak kira umur dan taraf kemampuan ."

Pihak EXCO berharap ahli ahli yang mengambil bahagian dalam acara acara kelab akan memakai pakai seragam kelab iaitu T shirt kuning supaya satu identiti seragam untuk kelab dapat dicapai. Pihak EXCO juga menyeru agar semua ahli memberi butir butir email yang terkini supaya EXCO dapat mengemaskini senarai ahli ahli.

Famemas members!

Come and support our Malaysian badminton players at the Proton Malaysian Open Super Series Badminton Championships. Wear our yellow T-shirt and cap, and sit together to cheer together!. All cheer materials will be provided eg kompangs

Venue: Bukit Jalil, Putra Stadium, Kuala Lumpur

Dates:

Friday 9 Jan 2009 at 6pm (Quarterfinal)
Sat 10 Jan 2009 at 1pm (Semifinals)
Sun 11 Jan 2009 at 1pm (Finals)

Meet at the stadium entrance half an hour before each match day starts

(Famemas will preferably sit in the Lower Tier. However there are no restrictions on where members want to sit)

Students: RM10 (Quarterfinal and Semifinal) and Rm13 for Finals
Adults: RM15 /RM25 and RM35 for QuarterFinal and Semifinal RM20/RM35/RM45 for Final
