Congratulations

The Office Bearers and members of the Olympic Council of Malaysia wishes to congratulate and welcome Y.B. Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek, on his appointment as the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia on 10th April 2009. Y.B. Datuk Ahmad Shabery Cheek was the former Minister of Information Malaysia. 

The Office Bearers and members of the Olympic Council of Malaysia wishes to congratulate and welcome Y.B. Datuk Razali Ibrahim, on his appointment as the one of the two Deputy Ministers of Youth and Sports Malaysia on 10th April 2009. Y.B. Dato’ Razali Ibrahim is the UMNO Youth Deputy Chief. 

Y.B. Encik Wee Jeck Seng is the other Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia.

The Office Bearers and members of the Olympic Council of Malaysia wishes to bid farewell and congratulate Y.B. Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the former Minister of Youth and Sports, who is now the Minister of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs. We wish him success in his new Ministry.

25th National Junior Netball Championship 2009 

The 25th National Junior Netball Championship was held from 9th to 12th April 2009 at Stadium Juara, Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur, from 9.00 a.m. to 6.00 p.m. each day. Twelve (12) State teams consisting of girls below 21 years participated in high spirit. 
The states were: Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, Johor, Kedah, Kelantan, Melaka, N. Sembilan, Pahang, Perak, P.Pinang, Sabah, Selangor, and Terengganu.

The results from first to the eight (1st – 8th )were as follows:

Y.Bhg. Dato’ Zolkples Embong, Director General, National Sports Council Malaysia, presented the prizes to the winning teams and closed the Championship. 

Hockey News

Malaysia has qualified for the Women’s Champion Challenge II Tournament to be played in Kazan, Russia, from 21st to 27th June 2009. The Malaysian Women’s Hockey Team is ranked 25th in the world.

The Malaysian Men’s Hockey Team has also qualified for the Men’s Champion Challenge II Tournament to be played in Dublin, Ireland, from 5th to 11th July 2009.

Malaysia 4th Handball League 2009

At the end of the 4th Round, played today, Vanila Star, a team comprising expatriates working in Malaysia, remains the only unbeaten team in the Men’s Division, with four wins out of four matches to lead the table. Hoisan, the defending champion is in second place with two other teams, Harun Boys and UiTM, having each lost one match. 

In the Women’s Division, where there are 8 teams competing, TSS is the only unbeaten team, winning all their 3 matches. BLITZ and UiTM teams suffered their first defeat today, both going down to TSS by 3 goals to 5 and 7 goals to 9, respectively. 

The 4th Malaysian National Figure Skating Championship 2009

The 4th Malaysian National Figure Skating Championship 2009 was held in Sunway Pyramid Ice on 10th and 11th April 2009. Over 60 Figure Skaters participated in the Championship. There were a total of 16 events, with 10 events for ladies, 3 events for men and 3 mix events. Out of the 10 ladies events, there were four events for young girls in the age-group 6 to 8 years, 9 years, 10 to 12 years and 13 to 17 girls and two events for junior. For the first time, a number of Malaysian living overseas, competed in the Championship.

Overall the Figure Skaters showed lots of enthusiasm and talents. In spite of limited practice and competition opportunities, the Skaters put up a great show. The Ice Skating Association of Malaysia (ISAM) is to be congratulated for the excellent organization and the great performance of the Skaters.
