Congratulations
The Olympic Council of Malaysia wishes to congratulate Y.Bhg. Dato’ A. Sani Karim on his election as the 5th President of the Asian Squash Federation at the 29th Asian Squash Federation Annual General Assembly held in Chennai, India on 23rd January 2009. Y.Bhg. Dato’ A. Sani Karim is a former Vice President of the World Squash Federation, former Vice President of OCM and presently the President of the Squash Rackets Association of Malaysia (SRAM). Another Malaysian, Major (R) S. Maniam is the Director of Coaching of the Asian Squash Federation.
Congratulations also to the Malaysian Junior Squash teams for achieving a clean sweep of the 4 titles (Boys and Girls team and individual titles), at the Asian Junior Championship 2009 held in Chennai, India from 16th to 23rd January 2009. This is the first occasion such a feat had been achieved by any country since the inception of the Championships in Singapore in 1983.
OCM Sports Goodwill Ambassadors Annual Gathering
The OCM Sports Goodwill Ambassadors (SGA) Annual Gathering will be held on 7th February 2009 at 11.30 a.m. at Conference Room, Ground Floor, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. Y.Bhg. Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Khoo Kay Kim, will present a talk on “Sports in Malaysia – yesterday and today”.
The OCM Recognition Award for Volunteer Grass-Root Coaches will be launched after the OCM SGA Gathering. The OCM Recognition Awards will be based on the following criteria:
• The coaches should be volunteers, who receive no salaries or collect fees/payments for the services they provide.
• The coaches should be involved at grass-roots development of young athletes.
• Weightage would be given to coaches who provide their services in rural or small towns.
• Coaches who have been recognized or have received awards before will not be considered.
National Sports Associations (NSAs), State Sports Associations (SSAs), sponsors, media, sports fans, etc., are invited to nominate deserving candidates to OCM for consideration. Please submit their names and brief backgrounds of their contributions, by 5th February 200 to OCM for consideration.
12th National Olympic Academy Session for Young Leaders 2009
The 12th National Olympic Academy Session for Young Leaders will be held from 17th to 21st February 2009 at Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. At the closing date of 31st January 2009, the number of registered participants is as follows:
Overseas participants – 18
Local universities – 9
National Sports Associations – 4
Since the best Malaysian male and female participant from the NSAs of the 12th NOA Session for Young Participants, will be selected to attend the 49th International Olympic Academy Session for Young Participants in Olympia, from 10th to 24th June 2009, the 4 participants received to date are too few for selection. As such NSAs are reminded to take action to submit their young participants to the above session. To provide more time for the NSAs to submit their participants, the closing date for NSAs will remain open until 15th February 2009 or when a total of 23 participants are received, whichever is earlier.
As the quota and closing date for overseas participants and local universities have been reached, applications from these two groups will not be entertained.
Advanced Sports Management Course (ASMC) 2009
The ASMC 2009 is designed for volunteers and paid staff of the executive level at the National Olympic Committee, National Federations and other bodies responsible for the organisation and development of sports. As it is an advanced course, it is important that participants are at the executive level so that they can participate fully in the learning activities and gain optimally from them. The ASMC is held over 4 week-end sessions, each lasting 4 days, from Thursdays to Sundays. The sessions are as follows:
• Session 1 – 26th February to 1st March 2009, on Organising an Olympic Sports Organisation and Managing Strategically.
• Session 2 – 7th to 10th May 2009 – Managing Human Resources and Managing Finance.
• Session 3 – 20th to 23rd August 2009 – Managing Marketing and Organising a Major Sport Event.
• Session 4 – 22nd to 25th October 2009 – Presentation and Discussion; the Learning Process.
The course venue is in Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. Those who are interested please go to OCM Website www.olympic.org.my for details. Closing date has been extended to 17th February 2009.
