The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to Y.Bhg. Dato’ Krishnan Tan, Independent Member of the OCM Trust Fund and his family including his brothers Encik Velayuthan Tan and Dr. K. H Tan, on the sad demise of their beloved mother on 19th September 2010. The service will be on 21st September 2010 at 22, Leboh Tamarind Southern Park, Klang.

OCM Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House 2010

The OCM Haro Raya Aidilfitri Open House was successfully organized on 18th September 2010 from 12.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. at Level 2C. All the guest had the opportunity to visit the newly upgraded OCM Hall of Fame and Sports Museum, at Level 2B.

Over 100 representatives of National Sports Associations, sponsors, ex-national athletes, media personnel, OCM Office Bearers and staff and friends and supporters of OCM attended the Open House Gathering. Present to greet the guests was YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, President of OCM and IOC Member in Malaysia and Office Bearers and staff of OCM.

Among the guest present were former Badminton ‘greats’ Y.Bhg. Dato’ Punch Gunalan, Y.Bhg. Dato’ James Selvaraj and Rasif Dato’ Sidek. Also present were Y.Bhg. Dato’ Peter Velappan, former General Secretary of AFC, Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Darshan Singh, former President of Asian Cycling Confederation, Y.Bhg. Dato’ A. Sani Karim, President of Asian Squash Federation and Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia and Vice President of OCM, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Naim Mohamad, Deputy President of Malaysian National Cycling Federation, Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Ar. W. Y. Chin, President of Malaysian Snooker & Billiards Federation, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Seri Kee Yong Wee, President of Wushu Federation of Malaysia and Hon. Treasurer of OCM, Y.Bhg. 10th KL Open Handball Major Cup 2010

The 10th KL Open Handball Mayor Cup championship was completed on 19th September 2010, at OCM Indoor Sports Arena, Wisma OCM Phase II. A total of 12 men’s team & 12 women’s team competed in the one day Handball carnival. A team from Singapore, comprising expatriates participated in the championship for the first time. There were also two teams from Segamat (Johor), and one team each from Perak and Negri Sembilan with the rest of the teams from the Klang Valley.

In the Men’s competition, Hoisan of Kuala Lumpur became the Champion by defeating UiTM team with a score of 6 goals to 4. In the first semi final, Hoisan defeated the Singapore Expatriates team by a score of 10 goals to 9 after extra time. In the other semi final, UiTM defeated UPSI with a score of 10 goals to 9.

In the Women’s competition, MZH won the Championship by defeating Legend with a score of 7 goals to 5. The two teams were tied 5 all after extra time and in the Penalty Shootout, MZH won by 2 goals. In the semi finals, MZH defeated Bulit Jalil School by a score of 11 goals to 2, whilke Legend defeated UiTM by 8 goals to 5.

All the matches were very exciting with narrow scores. To add to the excitement of the closely fought matches, 7 players were stuck in the lift on the 3rd floor for about 30 minutes. They were finally recued by the Fire Brigade who were called to force open the lift door.

Y.Bhg. Dato’ Haji Suhaimi Haji Yaakub presented the Challenge Cup and medals to the winning teams and medals to the runners-up and the two losing semi final teams.

2010 IOC Trophy: “Sport – inspiring young people”

Since 1985, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made available to all NOCs an annual IOC Trophy, each year with a different theme. The NOCs are responsible for identifying and selecting a recipient of the Trophy in their countries.

For the year 2010, the title of the IOC Trophy is “Sport – inspiring young people”. The Trophy will be presented to any athlete, official, organisation and other people, who are involved in sport, who are role models and an inspiration to young people.

OCM has the pleasure to invite NSAs, Media and the public to nominate candidates for consideration to be the recipient of the 2010 Trophy, which will be presented at the XVIII OCM Annual Dinner in December 2010. The closing date for nomination is 15th September 2010.

Salam to all,

Cuti raya is now over and most of us are back to our daily routine... and then we'll wait for another year for the next raya.

That's life huh. Year in and year out.. almost everything masih sama saja.... then we realize that we are old and had missed many things in our short and fast life. Yeah.. I missed the old raya songs, tadbir raya, sembahyang raya, duit raya and much more. These few years, I do not feel the oommpphh of raya as I do not listen much to the raya songs, tadbir raya and visiting relatives.

I arrived at my parents' house only at 6 pm on 1st raya and by 9.30 pm on 3rd raya... I am off to Sabah. I didnt have much time to spend with my nephews and nieces, my parents and my siblings. Yeah.. I missed those moments... the laughters and cries, the shoutings and teasings... and the food. I hope I'll be able to spend more time next raya. Semoga panjang umur.

Anyway to make up with those lost times... I do meet up with our long lost cousins at Sepilok rehabilation centre... the orang utans. We were quite lucky to get to view 5 of them during their feeding time. Kesian to them.... as human are croaching into their habitat in the disguise of development. We humans are actually being greedy. Yeah... thousands and thousands of hectares of jungles are cleared for timber and for palm oil plantations. It is ringgits that we are thinking off at the expense of nature. So guys... dont be surprised that we too might face the floods as in Pakistan or/and the droughts as in Somalia or China. Be prepared for these catasthropes.....

And I get to know the Bajaus too. They are just similar to the Malays... suka lepak, not inquisitive enough... and a very far difference from the Dusuns and Chinese. My sincere apologies to the Bajaus and Malays but that is my opinion. They believe in Bomohs, lintasan, saka and all the devils... Manchester United is also included. heheh

But they are soft spoken, humble and living within their community. But their houses are not properly kept... berterabur... berselerak...

and they cut their nails (toe and finger) too short and deep into the toes/fingers.. thus they have bigger and rounded toes!! I dont like to see them.... (the toes I mean) and the elders still chewing tobacco! Old women have red teeth and even 1 lady Guru Besar is doing this! Sorry... but I just wonder... with the red and black teeth...how do they make love? And making love without kisses and oral sex... then it is incomplete. No.. I cant do it! Oopps... please dont get me wrong...I mean that I wont even attempt for it...just tak boleh.

And Sabah... there are still many good things about the state. It is still beautiful and quite natural too. I saw the magnificient Mount Kinabalu from Kundansang-Ranau road and I am very frank to say that I was really missing her at those moments...just wishing that she was by my side. entah lah...as much as I tried to forget her (as my chances is very slim) but my inner feelings masih kuat terhadap si Dia. Mengapa ye? Dah bertahun-tahun dah....

Ok. Now lets talk about her. Should I propose to her? And knowingly that there are better men after her and therefore chances of being rejected is very obvious and... may be I can accept it...but then... sudah pasti hati terluka teramat sangat.... ahhhh... Ok..let it as it is...

So many Sabahans are just like many other Malaysians who have lost their confidence in BeeAnn. Hope they show it in their ballot papers.

Condolences

The late Mr. Fong Seow Jit

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to the family of the late

Mr. Fong Seow Jit, a former national swimmer and water polo player, who passed away peacefully on 6th September 2010 in Penang at the age of 68 years.

The late Mr. Fong Seow Jit, participated in the Rome 1960 Olympic Games in Swimming. He also represented Malaysia in swimming at the 2nd SEAP Games in Yangon, Myanmar in 1961. From 1965 to 1973, he switched over to Water Polo and represented Malaysia at the 1966 and 1970 Asian Games, held in Bangkok and the SEAP Games from 1965 to 1973.

The late Mr. Fong Seow Jit came from a family of swimmers and Water Polo players. All his brothers have represented Malaysia in either swimming and/or water polo. Since his retirement from Water Polo, the late Mr. Fong has been running his restaurant, the New Zealand Sea Food Restaurant in Gurney Drive, Penang.

The late Mr. Wong Siong Keng

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to the family of the late

Mr. Wong Siong Keng, the former national basketball coach passed away peacefully on 8th September 2010 in Ipoh at the age of 87. He was born in 1923 in Kelantan and started playing basketball from 1950 and retired as a player in 1962. He was a national player, representing Malaya at the 2nd SEAP Games in 1961 held in Yangon, Myanmar. Upon retirement, the late Mr. Wong Siong Keng became a coach from 1962 to 1988.

He was one of the pioneers in developing the National Basketball Coaching course in Malaysia. He also played an important role as a coach when Malaysian Women Basketball Team won the SEA Games gold medal five times consecutively from 1977 to 1985.

The OCM Category B Scheme – Part III & Final

The importance and interest, the NSAs place on the participation of their athletes/teams in multi-sports Games, such as the Olympic, Commonwealth, Asian and SEA Games, is clearly shown by the manner, the NSAs campaign, lobby and fight for their athletes/teams to be selected by OCM. To the NSAs the right to be selected for the multi-sports Games is the most important reason for them to be members of OCM.

As everyone is aware, each NSA has the right to participate in individual sports championships, such as world championships, continental championships, regional championships and international championships of their respective sports. They do so without any fuss and hassle as the decision to participate in such championships are solely within their own associations and their respective International Federations.

Om the other hand, OCM is the only means for the NSAs to participate in multi-sports Games. Thus, selection of athletes/teams to participate in multi-sports Games, such as the Olympic, Commonwealth, Asian and SEA Games, is by OCM, based on the recommendations of the respective NSAs. Since OCM is neutral and selection is based on merit, the NSAs consider selection of their athletes/teams to be great achievements, as it is proof that they are better than those NSAs whose athletes/teams were not selected.

Based on the above reasons, it is clear that the OCM Category B Scheme is fair to the NSAs, as it respects the rights of the NSAs and provides the opportunity to the NSAs to prove to OCM that their athletes/teams deserve to be selected. From statistics available, Category B athletes/teams have met the challenges and have won medals at the multi-sports Games. In addition, while there are some delays in re-payment, all NSAs have kept their words to reimburse OCM for the expenses incurred by its Category B athletes/teams.

Vocal Support for Malaysia Athletes - The Star

The members of the Kelab Famemas Kuala Lumpur and Selangor supporters’ group have named their next campaign as “GAG” (Guangzhou Asian Games) for the 16th Asian Games at Guangzhou in China.

The pun is intended as their catchy mission code in their aim to provide moral and vocal support to the national hopefuls featuring in the Games.

They do not want to be restrained from making their voices heard loud and clear.

The Club’s chairman Lee Hui Seng said about 20 members had indicated they are keen to be part of their eight-day outing at the games from 20-27.

“We have been making arrangements for the trip to China after the Thomas and Uber Cup final in Kuala Lumpur in May.

“It will be a totally different atmosphere throwing our support behind our athletes at major games. It also caters to our local supporters with interest in varios sports.

“We are encouraging other sports followers to join us for Asian Games,“ he added.

Following a strong representation of 100 supporters in the pack for the Busan Asian Gamess in 2002, only two staunch followers went to Doha in 2006.

For the regional SEA Games, they made their debut in Vietnam (2003) followed by another three outings at the biennial meet in the Philippines (2005), Thailand (2007) and Laos (2009).

At the upcoming Games, they are planning to engage in full-on action for six days with a break in between on Nov 23.

They are expected to witness the Malaysian entries in archery, athletics, badminton, basketball, bowling, diving, football, hockey, karate, rhythmic gymnastics, sepak takraw, squash and teakwando.

“We will be covering up to four sports a day. It will all depend on Malaysia’s involvement. We are hoping our athletes will stay in contention and give us the reason to cheer for them.

“We are working to obtain the ticket to get into the competition venues. It could turn out to be an easier stint compared to last year’s trip to Vientiane, Laos.

“Even if we do not get into the competition arena, we will be staying around the public areas to foster friendship with fans from other countries and make our presence felt in promoting Malaysia,” Lee Hui Seng said.

For the trip to Guangzhou, the cost of RM3.500 for each person includes retuns air ticket, visa application and ground arrangements.

Kecewa tak bida Sukan Asia 2019

SAYA sebahagian rakyat Malaysia yang sedih dengan keputusan Kabinet tidak menyokong pembidaan Kuala Lumpur sebagai tuan rumah Sukan Asia 2019.

Jika Kabinet merasakan kos yang tinggi itu tidak dapat diterima rakyat, saya adalah rakyat yang tidak kisah perihal kos penganjuran dijangkakan RM1.6 bilion itu. Saya melihat kos pembinaan bangsa, rasa bangga kepada negara dan rasa kekitaan akan melebihi daripada kos cadangan penganjuran sukan terbabit.

Pada saya penganjuran Sukan Asia boleh menjadi saluran yang baik melangsungkan inisiatif konsep 1Malaysia melalui sukan sebesar Sukan Asia.

Saya berharap, Kabinet memikirkan semula usaha meneruskan pembidaan Sukan Asia 2019 kerana mungkin bukan keuntungan wang, tetapi pulangan dari segi pembinaan negara bangsa.

Hari Raya is just just 3 days away. And so is fasting.... but I am yet to get a call from her for our berbuka puasa bersama. Kesian Kapten... menunggu buah yang tidak gugur. Harapan yang hanya tinggal harapan saja... To her, it is OK... kalau ada jodoh... mungkin tahun hadapan kita berbuka bersama kan?

Oh... yesterday I realised that my children really care for their old man. They are expecting that their not so handsome father must dress properly... like all the coporate figures... huh huh... though I am only a keparat kot. Yeah.. any children would wanted that for their parents but then my anak-anak took me to a boutique and chose a baju Melayu for me! Of cos I had to pay for it but then... their intention to make me to look good... it is just nice... I felt that I am being taken care off. Thank you Haikal, Amira & Fahteen... may Allah bless you all at all times. Love you.

This Raya... I'll be back to Jasin, Melaka only after distributing Raya food. Then on 12 Sept... I am off for a 4 day tour of Sabah. I'll be back only on 18 Sept. I'll be meeting up with Tok Moh at Taun Gusi... a kampung on the way to Kudat from Kota Belud. He is visiting his son-in-laws parents.

And my parents used to say... that the coming Raya could be the last raya with all of us. yeah... we can never know our fate.... we might be healthy today but for tomorrow... we can only hope and pray hard that we would be better. So guys...life is too short. So..make full use of it.

I just want to highlight to all of you. Your EXCOs are really doing their job. I've seen how Mr Lee, En Hafidz, Mr Dorai and others... they just approached Ministers, VVIPs and the office bearers of OCM, MSN and KBS to convince and to make them to realise that Famemas need to be in Ghaongzou for the Asian Games. Are our EXCOs being paid? No members... not at all. They just do it for the sake of the club. They sacrifice their valuable time and money for the sake of Famemas. So guys... lets give them a big clap... and Thank you EXCOs... may the Almighty bless you and reward you in kinds. TERIMA KASIH EXCOs!

EPL? I just hate the break. Just started and there is this break for the Euro preliminary rounds. Aiyah... baru nak stim...

The results from the few matches showed the amazing gap between the top clubs and the bottom half. We have seen a few score line of 6-0s. This might be good to watch but it wont be good for EPL as predictions will most likely to be true and thus there wont be much excitement. And Ballack is now history in EPL. Bye..bye Ballack. Bye bye Robinho. Adebayour? He is on his way out too. So.. those players who think that they are smart...they got their own medicine. They deserved it. the reality in life is that.. kita tak boleh cakap besar.

Condolences

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to the family of the late Y.Bhg. Datuk Gabuh Piging, who passed away peacefully in Penang, on 31st August 2010 at the age of 78 years.

The late Datuk Gabuh Piging, represented Sabah in the Long Jump and Triple Jump, at the Olympic Games and the British Empire Games Commonwealth Games between 1956 to 1962. At that time, Malaysia was not yet established and Sabah athletes could participate in the Olympic Games and the British Empire and Commonwealth Games. He held the national Triple Jump record of 15.16m for 25 years between 1962 to 1987.

The OCM Category B Scheme – Part II

In discussing the merits and demerits of the OCM Category B Scheme, it is relevant to be aware of the OCM Selection Principles for major Games, which were approved at the123rd OCM Council Meeting held on 22nd January 2002. The principles are as follows:

1. The OCM and the NSAs abide by the Fundamental Principles if the Olympic Charter, the Olympic Moto of “Faster, Higher and Stronger” and the strife for excellence. Accordingly OCM does not condone, encourage or reward mediocrity amongst Malaysian sportsmen and sportswomen.
2. The right of selection of athletes/teams to international multi-sports Games is with the OCM and its affiliates and to individual sports championships is with the respective NSAs, as set out in the Olympic Charter and the constitutions of the respective International Federations (IF).
3. OCM shall ensure a mechanism of selection that is balanced and fair, that is supportive of excellence of effort and that will recognize potential for success, present and future.

In addition to the principles, the 123rd OCM Council Meeting also established the following four categories for selection:-

• Licence – athletes/teams invited by the respective IFs and/or organising committees. These athletes/teams may or may not have met the qualifying standards set by the IFs or the organising committees.
• Qualification – athletes/teams who qualified based on quota places or qualifying competitions, on a regional or continental basis set by the IFs and/or organising committees.
• Standards – athletes/teams who have achieved the qualifying standards set by OCM.
• Potentials – athletes/teams whose participation in the multi-sports Games will be beneficial to their potential for success both present and future.

OCM qualifying standards for multi-sports Games are as follows:

1. SEA Games – 2nd placing of the last SEA Games for measurable sports and for non-measurable sports are medal prospects.
2. Asian Games – 3rd place standards of the last Asian Games for measurable sports and for non-measurable sports are medal prospects.
3. Commonwealth Games – 6th place standards of the last Commonwealth Games and for non-measurable sports are medal prospects.
4. Category A Potentials – young athletes/teams whose participation in the multi-sports Games will be beneficial to their potential for success both present and future as recommended by the respective NSAs and the Selection Committee.
5. Category B Potentials – athletes/teams whose participation in the multi-sports Games will be beneficial to their potential for success both present and future as recommended by the respective NSAs and the Selection Committee.

Qualification for the Olympic Games are based on the standards and criteria established by the respective IFs and the IOC. Views on opinions on OCM Selection principles, Categories and Standards are most welcomed.

2010 IOC Trophy: “Sport – inspiring young people”

Since 1985, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made available to all NOCs an annual IOC Trophy, each year with a different theme. The NOCs are responsible for identifying and selecting a recipient of the Trophy in their countries.

For the year 2010, the title of the IOC Trophy is “Sport – inspiring young people”. The Trophy will be presented to any athlete, official, organisation and other people, who are involved in sport, who are role models and an inspiration to young people.

OCM has the pleasure to invite NSAs, Media and the public to nominate candidates for consideration to be the recipient of the 2010 Trophy, which will be presented at the XVIII OCM Annual Dinner in December 2010. The closing date for nomination is 30th September 2010.

2010/2011 IOC Award for Sport and the Environment

The IOC Commission for Sport and Environment, launched the second edition of the IOC Sport and Environment Award 2010-2011 on 16th August 2010. The Award is open to individuals, groups and organisations nominated by or through National Olympic Committees, Recognised Organisations, International Federations and Continental Associations.

Winners of the Award, one from each continent will be invited to the 9th World Conference for Sport and Environment to be held in Doha, Qatar in 2011. Their return air ticket (economy class) and hotel accommodation will be met by the IOC.

All those interest to submit nominations may obtain the details and the entry forms from the Olympic Council of Malaysia. The closing date for nomination is 15th January 2011.

Famemas tidak hantar ahli - Harian Metro

KELAB penyokong Malaysia, Famemas tidak akan menghantar ahli untuk memberi sokongan dan dorongan kepada atlet negara yang beraksi di Sukan Komanwel edisi ke-19 di New Delhi, India dari 3 hingga 14 Oktober ini.

Presiden, Lee Hui Seng berkata, salah satu faktor yang menyebabkan mereka mengambil keputusan itu adalah kebimbangan tahap keselamatan di negara itu.

“Kita tidak tahu sejauh mana tahap keselamatan disediakan penganjur kepada para penyokong malah laporan situasi semasa negara itu yang siar media turut mencetuskan kebimbangan,” katanya.

Hui Seng menambah beberapa faktor lain turut mempengaruhi keputusan mereka seperti kos yang tinggi, keadaan kesihatan serta peluang untuk memenangi pingat emas adalah rendah di Sukan Komanwel berbanding Sukan Asia.

Isu keselamatan menjadi kebimbangan sebelum ini, malah pihak Pesuruhjaya Tinggi Malaysia di India turut dilapor menasihatkan ibu bapa yang ingin menyaksikan anak-anak beraksi pada temasya itu mempertimbangkan kembali hasrat itu.

Terbaru pada Julai lalu, satu kumpulan puak pemisah Sikh dikenali Khalistan Liberation Force (KLF) didakwa mungkin menimbulkan kekacauan di New Delhi semasa temasya berlangsung.

Famemas sebaliknya menurut Hui Seng akan merancang menghantar kira-kira 40 orang bagi memberi sokongan kepada kontinjen negara di Sukan Asia Guangzhou, China yang berlangsung sebulan selepas itu, iaitu dari 12 hingga 27 November.

“Kita melihat potensi memenangi pingat dalam beberapa acara lebih cerah serta saingannya lebih tinggi dengan adanya kontinjen dari China, Jepun dan Korea Selatan.

“Kita menjangkakan perbelanjaan RM3,500 sepanjang berada di Guangzhou selama lapan hari bermula 20 November,” tambahnya yang turut mengalu-alukan rakyat Malaysia yang ingin memberi sokongan kepada atlet negara menyertai Famemas bagi memberi semangat kepada kontinjen negara.

Malaysia menghantar 203 atlet dan 99 pegawai untuk menyertai 14 jenis sukan di Sukan Komanwel manakala Sukan Asia yang diketuai oleh Ketua Pengarah Majlis Sukan Negara, Datuk Zolkples Embong membabitkan 298 atlet di dalam kategori A dan B untuk menyertai 31 daripada 42 acara yang dipertandingkan.

Famemas yang mempunyai kira-kira 500 orang ahli sebelum ini menjadi penyokong tetap kontinjen negara yang beraksi di dalam dan luar negara seperti Sukan Asia 2002 di Busan, Korea Selatan serta beberapa edisi Sukan SEA bermula di Vietnam (2003), Filipina (2005), Thailand (2007) dan Laos pada tahun lalu.
