Congratulations

The OCM wishes to congratulate Y.Bhg. Dato’ Billie Ng and Y.Bhg. Dato’ Yew Cheng Hoe for being conferred the Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang (DIMP) which carries the title Dato’ by DYMM Sultan of Pahang on 274th July 2010. The Award is in recognition for their outstanding contributions as a National Badminton players in the 60’s and as members of the victorious Malaysian Thomas Cup team, which won back the Thomas Cup in Jakarta in 1966. Y.Bhg. Dato’ Yew Cheng Hoe and Y.Bhg. Dato’ Billie Ng were inducted to the OCM Hall of Fame in January 2008.

Launch of OCM Trust Fund and Signing of OCM Trust Fund Deed

The 2nd Meeting of the OCM Trust Fund Management Committee will be held on 3rd August 2010 at 2.30 p.m. at the OCM Board Room, 1st Floor, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. After the meeting, the Signing Ceremony of the OCM Trust Fund Deed and the official launch of the OCM Trust Fund was held at 4.00 p.m. at the same venue. YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, President of OCM signed the Trust Deed on behalf of OCM. Y.Bhg. Dato’ Krishnan K. T. Tan, independent OCM Trust Management Committee member signed as witness.

In his briefing to the media before the signing of the OCM Trust Fund Deed, YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, stated that the setting up of the Trust Fund was a proud and historical moment for OCM. He added the Trust Fund was a result of years of hard work, prudent expenditure, thriftiness and proper management of OCM’s finances. He said that the Trust Management Committee, with three well-known independent members and 3 principle Office Bearers of OCM, was formed to ensure proper and transparent management of the Fun.

The next step for the Trust Management Committee is to draw up the guidelines for the management, administration and the disbursement and of the Trust Fund for the approval of the OCM Executive Council. Once the guidelines are approved and the Trust Fund is operational, disbursement of funds could commence.

Mexico Youth Olympic Games Contingent

The Mexican Olympic Committee Contingent participating in the 1st Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore from 14th to 26th August 2010, are staying in the Olympic Sports Hotel, Kuala Lumpur from 4th to 10th August 2010.

The Contingent, led by Mr. Ricardo Probert, Chef de Mission, together with 29 athletes and 16 officials arrived in the Olympic Sports Hotel, at 5.30 p.m. on 4th August 2010, after over 20 hours of flying time from Mexico City, The main purpose of the Mexican Contingent’s stop-over in Kuala Lumpur is to get over their jet-lag, to acclimatize and to carry out light training.

The athletes are carrying out light fitness training in the ISN Gymnasium at Bukit Jalil. For specific sports training, arrangements have been made with the relevant NSAs to accommodate the Mexican youth Olympians. The sailors are training in Port Dickson, and as a sign of the friendship between the Mexican Olympic Committee and OCM, the 2 sailors are ferried up and down to Port Dickson by the transport provided by OCM.

Mr. Ricardo Probert, who on 25th and 26th March 2010, visited the Olympic Sports Hotel and OCM to make prior arrangements, expressed his satisfaction with the accommodation and food provided by the Olympic Sports Hotel and the training arrangements by ISN, the NSAs and OCM.

The breakdown of the 29 athletes are as follows:
7 athletes in Athletic, 2 Archery athletes, 2 Badminton players, 1 Boxer, 1 Canoeist, 4 Cyclists, 1 athletes in Rhythmic Gymnastics, 1 Artistic Gymnast, 1 Judoka, 2 Pentathlon athletes, 2 Sailors, 2 Triathlon athletes, 2 Weightlifters, 1 Wrestler.
The 16 Contingent Officials are: 1 Chef de Mission, 1 Doctor, 2 Trainers, 12 Coaches
The athletes in Taekwondo and Shooting are training in Korea and will fly direct to Singapore on 10th August 2010.

Flag Handing Ceremony of the 1st Youth Olympic Games, Singapore

Y.Bhg. Dato’ Zolkples Embong, Director General of the National Sports Council Malaysia (NSC), presented the Jalur Gemilang to Encik Alex Lim Keng Liat, the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Youth Olympic Contingent to the 1st Youth Olympic Games (YOG) to be held in Singapore from 14th to 26th August 2010. About 10 YOG athletes with their officials, staff of NSC and members of the media were present to witness the Flag Handing.

In his address to the Contingent, the Director General congratulated the athletes and officials for qualifying and being selected to participate in the 1st YOG and wished them success in their competitions in Singapore. He said that the NSC has not set any target, but was confident that the Contingent has the potential to win a couple of medals. He added that NSC has not decided on the rewards scheme for the 1st YOG, but will observe the standards of the competitions before making a decision. He expressed the hope that the young athletes will participate in some of the non-sports educational programmes, especially designed for the 1st YOG. After his speech, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Zolkples Embong handed the Jalur Gemilang to Encik Alex Lim Keng Liat, the Chef de Mission of the Malaysian Contingent to participate in the 1st YOG.

3rd Module of the Advanced Sports Management Course 2010

The 3rd Module on ‘Event Management’ of the Advanced Sports management Course was conducted at Wisma OCM, from 5th to 8th August 2010. Of the 14 who attended the 2nd Module, 2 participants have dropped out. Another 2 participants, due to work commitments could not attend the 3rd Module, but will return for the 3rd and 4th Modules in 2011. 3 participants, who did not attend Modules 3 and 4 in 2009, have rejoined the Course. The total number of participants attending the 3rd Module is 13.

The Ice Skating Association of Malaysia (ISAM)

At the ISAM Annual General Meeting held on 1st August 2010, Y.Bhg. Datin Laila Abdullah was re-elected President, with Encik Mohamad Fadzil Johan the Deputy President. Chempaka Bato’ Pahamin and Cik Sivajothi Suppiah were elected the Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer, respectively. OCM wishes to congratulate all the elected Executive Council Members of ISAM and wish them success in developing Ice Skating in Malaysia.

Invitation to Participate in the 16th Asian Games Science Congress 2010

The Guangzhou Asian Games Organising Committee (GAGOC) has invited OCM to nominate one representative to attend the 16th Asian Games Science Congress, to be held in Guangzhou from 10th to 12th October 2010. The Congress Organising Committee will cover the cost of registration fee, accommodation and internal transport. Candidates are invited to submit their applications to OCM for consideration. Preference would be given to candidates who would present a sports science paper at the Congress. The closing date is 20th August 2010.
