15th OCM Executive Board Meeting
The 15th OCM Executive Board meeting was held on 11th November 2008 at 5.00 p.m. at OCM Boardroom, 1st Floor, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur. The following matter were decided:
* The 16th OCM Annual Dinner and Presentation of the Olympians of the Year Awards will be held on 12th November 2008 at the OCM Indoor Sports Arena, Wisma OCM, Kuala Lumpur.
* The 8th OCM Annual Events Seminar, which was originally scheduled on 1st November 2008, will now be held on 4th December 2008 at 5.00 p.m. at the Meeting Room of Hotel Olympic, Ground floor, Wisma OCM.
* The 2009 OCM Annual General Assembly will be held on 30th May 2009.
National Sports Convention
The National Sports Convention
2008 was successfully organized by the National Sports Council on 11th and 12th November 2008 at the Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur with around 250 participants. The Convention was officially declared opened by Y.A.B Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak, Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia. In his opening speech, the Deputy Prime Minster called for a holistic and balanced approach to sports development taking into consideration the eco-system of sports in Malaysia. He stated that sports that produce results at international competitions will be rewarded with more funding support from Government. He called on Malaysian sports officials and athletes to work together to win Malaysia’s first Olympic gold medal soon, at the London 2012 Olympic Games, if possible. He announced the setting up of a national Badminton Academy by approving RM24 million for its construction.
YB Dato’ Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, the Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, in his closing address stated that the National Sports Convention will be held annually and a committee will be set up to monitor the implementation of the resolutions of the Convention.
SEA Games Federation Meetings
Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ W. Y. Chin attended the SEA Games Federation meetings held in Vientiane, Laos from 11th to 13th November 2008. He announced that the SEA Games Federation Council had approved 25 sports and 398 events. The 25 sports are Aquatics (Swimming and Diving), Archery, Athletics, Badminton, Billiards & Snooker, Boxing, Cycling (Road & Mountain Bikes), Fin Swimming, Football, Golf, Judo, Karate, Petanque, Sepaktakraw, Silat Shooting, Shuttle Kicking, Table Tennis, Tennis, Taekwondo, Volleyball (including Beach Volleyball) , Weightlifting, Wrestling and Wushu.
