Handing of Jalur Gemilang Ceremony – the Handing of Jalur Gemilang to YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Abdul Halil bin Mutalib, Chef de Mission of the Malaysia Contingent to the Delhi XIX Commonwealth Games 2010, by Y.B. Condolences

The Office Bearers and members of OCM wish to extend our condolences to Y.Bhg. Dato’ Krishnan Tan, Independent Member of the OCM Trust Fund and his family including his brothers Encik Velayuthan Tan and Dr. K. H Tan, on the sad demise of their beloved mother on 19th September 2010. The service will be on 21st September 2010 at 22, Leboh Tamarind Southern Park, Klang.

OCM’s Relationship with BFM 89.9FM

Following regular contact between OCM Media Committee and BFM 89.9FM, OCM is pleased to advise that OCM is moving ahead with our association and to provide content for their weekly programme - “Sports Un-illustrated” - hosted by Ross Yusoff on Sundays from 10.00am to 12 Noon.

OCM Hari Raya Aidilfitri Open House 2010

The OCM Haro Raya Aidilfitri Open House was successfully organized on 18th September 2010 from 12.30 p.m. to 3.00 p.m. at Level 2C. All the guest had the opportunity to visit the newly upgraded OCM Hall of Fame and Sports Museum, at Level 2B.

Over 100 representatives of National Sports Associations, sponsors, ex-national athletes, media personnel, OCM Office Bearers and staff and friends and supporters of OCM attended the Open House Gathering. Present to greet the guests was YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Almarhum Tuanku Ja’afar, President of OCM and IOC Member in Malaysia and Office Bearers and staff of OCM.

Among the guest present were former Badminton ‘greats’ Y.Bhg. Dato’ Punch Gunalan, Y.Bhg. Dato’ James Selvaraj and Rasif Dato’ Sidek. Also present were Y.Bhg. Dato’ Peter Velappan, former General Secretary of AFC, Y.Bhg. Tan Sri Darshan Singh, former President of Asian Cycling Confederation, Y.Bhg. Dato’ A. Sani Karim, President of Asian Squash Federation and Squash Racquets Association of Malaysia and Vice President of OCM, Y.Bhg. Dato’ Naim Mohamad, Deputy President of Malaysian National Cycling Federation, Y.Bhg. Prof. Dato’ Ar. W. Y. Chin, President of Malaysian Snooker & Billiards Federation, Y.Bhg. 10th KL Open Handball Major Cup 2010

The 10th KL Open Handball Mayor Cup championship was completed on 19th September 2010, at OCM Indoor Sports Arena, Wisma OCM Phase II. A total of 12 men’s team & 12 women’s team competed in the one day Handball carnival. A team from Singapore, comprising expatriates participated in the championship for the first time. There were also two teams from Segamat (Johor), and one team each from Perak and Negri Sembilan with the rest of the teams from the Klang Valley.

In the Men’s competition, Hoisan of Kuala Lumpur became the Champion by defeating UiTM team with a score of 6 goals to 4. In the first semi final, Hoisan defeated the Singapore Expatriates team by a score of 10 goals to 9 after extra time. In the other semi final, UiTM defeated UPSI with a score of 10 goals to 9.

In the Women’s competition, MZH won the Championship by defeating Legend with a score of 7 goals to 5. The two teams were tied 5 all after extra time and in the Penalty Shootout, MZH won by 2 goals. In the semi finals, MZH defeated Bulit Jalil School by a score of 11 goals to 2, whilke Legend defeated UiTM by 8 goals to 5.

All the matches were very exciting with narrow scores. To add to the excitement of the closely fought matches, 7 players were stuck in the lift on the 3rd floor for about 30 minutes. They were finally recued by the Fire Brigade who were called to force open the lift door.

Y.Bhg. Dato’ Haji Suhaimi Haji Yaakub presented the Challenge Cup and medals to the winning teams and medals to the runners-up and the two losing semi final teams.

2010 IOC Trophy: “Sport – inspiring young people”

Since 1985, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made available to all NOCs an annual IOC Trophy, each year with a different theme. The NOCs are responsible for identifying and selecting a recipient of the Trophy in their countries.

For the year 2010, the title of the IOC Trophy is “Sport – inspiring young people”. The Trophy will be presented to any athlete, official, organisation and other people, who are involved in sport, who are role models and an inspiration to young people.

OCM has the pleasure to invite NSAs, Media and the public to nominate candidates for consideration to be the recipient of the 2010 Trophy, which will be presented at the XVIII OCM Annual Dinner in December 2010. The closing date for nomination is 15th September 2010.
