Celoteh Kepten Shafari - Jom Ke Singapore

Hi Famemas members,

so about 40 of us are going to S'pore on 13 and 14 June. Yeah! Yeah! yeah! Famemas BOLEH!

I remembered the trip in 2007. It was quite an interestring trip though a few of us were stopped at the CIQ complex across the causeway. Then the stadium people did not allow us to hang on our flags and our Chairman had some good words for them. A few Singaporean Ah Sohs came over to settle the matter. There was one lady who told the stadium people that' "For the last 6 years, never before that we had some good time but yesterday, these people (referring to Famemas) made all of us to enjoy the badminton game". And just a few days after that, it was discussed in their Parliment that they should try to revive the "Reds", their group of supporters during the Malaysia Cup days. So guys... that was the impact that Famemas had brought to Singapore...the city of Kiasus and Kiasias.... heheheh Whats Kiasias??? a new car model from Kia?

Guys... please try to go to S'pore and cheer our players. They need our support.

Yesterday there was this Rambo from Jasin who was shot dead after trying to rob a family. Well, Jasin is such a peaceful place and one of the places in Malaysia that the crime rate is very minimum. But with the Rambo case.... Jasin is no longer considered an "aman" town.

Newcastle, Middlesborough and West Brom were relegated to the 2nd league. Most surprising is Newcastle. They were once, one of the top teams but lately...they are no hoppers. Owen, Mark Viduka and Damien Duff are no more in EPL comes next season?

Ok... I met these guys who were Liverfool supporters. They are planning to see Liverfool playing in Bangkok on 22 July. Fanatics! They are simply fanatics. I told them it has been just too long... 19 years ago when they won the Premier League Cup.. and I think they wont able to get it in the next few years because they just do not have the 2nd/ the grooming players.... I mean the youngsters. There are plenty in MU...like Macheda, Gibson, Possedon, Welback and so and so.... Well.. those Liverfooldians claimed that MU had just equalled their record of 18 league titles....

I just kept quite after that but deep in me... I just wanted to tell them when Liverfools were Champions... the soccer game was not that modern yet... and 2 decades ago... the game was played differently... less sophisticated and less demanding than now. But do I have to explain to the fanatics?? waste of time right?? heheheh So sorry to Liverfool fans.

And in PPP, they have 2 leaders now. It is absolutely in a 'tonggang langgang' situation right now.

I like to see Erra Fazira's daughter...Aleesya. Very.. very.. cute. Razlin.. you pun suka tak tengok baby yang comel??

Ok guys... till we meet again, take care and enjoy life.

Adios...

Capt....still very lonely in KL.

President’s Statement for the 28th OCM Annual General Assembly 2009.

The period from May 2008 to May 2009, was yet another outstanding and successful period for the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM). Overall OCM not only achieved excellent results in all its activities, but also managed to increase the number of activities organized during the period under review.

The most important event of 2008 was the Games of the XXIX Olympiad held in Beijing, China from 8th to 24th August 2008. The Malaysian Contingent of 33 athletes, comprising 19 male and 14 female athletes, who participated in 9 sports and one discipline, made it the largest Malaysian Olympic Contingent, since qualifying system was introduced. In addition, there were 33 male and one female team officials and 6 male and 2 female medical officials. After two consecutive Olympic Games without winning any medal, Badminton player YBhg Dato’ Lee Chong Wei, won the silver medal in the Badminton Men’s Singles events. Overall the Malaysian Contingent did well, as besides the Badminton team, the Archery team and the Track Cycling team performed creditably by qualifying for the quarter-finals in their respective events.

Of less importance, but nevertheless a significant milestone in the history of the OCM was the successful organisation of the 12th World Sport for All Congress, in Genting Highlands, from 3rd to 6th November 2008. A total of 508 participants from 98 countries of all 5 continents attended the 12th World Congress, with the largest number of participants, 280 from Asia and 138 participants from Europe. The invited speakers included Lord Sebastian Coe, Chairman and President of the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games, Sir Philip Craven, President of the International Paralympic Committee and three Malaysians.

The highlight of the 12th World Congress was a specially organised Hash Run at Batang Kali on 4th November 2008, where the international participants of the Congress had the opportunity to join Malaysian Hashers for a fun run through secondary Malaysian forest, a rubber estate and two river crossings. It was truly an amazing and exciting once in a life time sport for all experience for the participants.

Besides participating in the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, Malaysian athletes also participated in the 3rd Commonwealth Youth Games held in Pune, India from 12th to 18th October 2008, the 1st Asian Youth Games, Bali, Indonesia from 18th to 26th October 2008 and the 5th Australian Youth Olympic Festival in Sydney, Australia from 14th to 18th January 2009.

Based on the advice of the Hon. Minister of Youth and Sports Malaysia, the rating system for national sports associations (NSAs) was modified by separating the scores of each of the three areas, Governance, Programmes & Activities and Achievements and reporting them as 3 individual ‘report cards’. In addition, a weightage of one was assigned for Governance and for Activities and Programmes, whiles a weightage of two was assigned for Achievements . With the above change, new scores were calculated based on last year’s returns of the NSAs. The review of the questionnaire and the formation of an ‘audit’ committee are in progress. Once completed a new Rating Exercise will be carried out in the second half of 2009.

Due to circumstances beyond the control of OCM and Peninsular Digital Sdn. Bhd (PDSB), the joint venture agreement was terminated amicably. Astro has now taken over the project and meetings with representatives of a number of NSAs, to discuss the implementation of Astro Arena. The Channel is expected to commence operation by the end of the year. Once launched, Astro Arena will bring much benefits in many ways to the National Sports Associations.
Waz Lian Hotel Management Group has invested over RM5.0 million in the renovations and upgrading of all the rooms, the coffee house, the car parking system and the conference rooms of Hotel Olympic. Upgrading of the front reception lounge and painting of the Hotel will be completed by the end of 2009. With the completion of the renovation and upgrading, Hotel Olympic will attain a standard, which OCM will be proud of, and affiliates should give their full support for Hotel Olympic to be the centre of sports activities.

The financial position of OCM continues to strengthen. At the end of 31st December 2008, OCM had Fixed Assets of RM22.0 million, Current Assets of RM8 million and investments of RM8.6 million. The surplus for the year 2008 was RM1,299,784/= on a total income of RM10,458,426/= for the year as against RM1,739,815/= on a total income of RM9,715,292/= for the year 2007.

The financial stability of OCM is secured through the long term lease of Hotel Olympic to Waz Lian Hotel Management Group. The revenue from the rental of Hotel Olympic is sufficient to meet the annual operating expenses of OCM. Funds from Olympic Solidarity, Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and sponsors are channeled for sports development programmes. The establishment of the OCM Sport Development Trust Fund will further ensure a sustainable annual income for development and well-being of athletes and affiliates of OCM.

During the period under review, OCM managed to maintain the successes and growth, which were achieved over the past decade. However the years ahead are full of challenges. The introduction of a number of new multi-sports Games, such as the Asian Beach Games, Asian Indoor Games, and Asian Martial Arts Games and a number of Youth Games, means more obligations and financial commitments for OCM. The resolution at the 1st OCA Congress 2009, of “One Sport-One Games” and “One Games-One Year”, gives hopes that there will soon be a resolution on the over-crowded international sports calendar.

Finally, I wish to thank the Government of Malaysia, the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Council of Asia, the Commonwealth Games Federation, sponsors, my colleagues on the Board and the Council as well as the staff and volunteers of OCM for their invaluable support and guidance.

Pakistan akhiri perjalanan hebat Malaysia

PEMAIN Malaysia meraikan gol pendahuluan menerusi Ismail Abu dalam saingan separuh akhir menentang Pakistan, malam tadi. Malaysia tewas 2-4.

Sejarah baru badminton

Mew Choo pastikan Malaysia ke separuh akhir Piala Sudirman

HANYA 24 minit diperlukan pemain wanita utama negara, Wong Mew Choo, buat melakar sejarah baru skuad badminton negara yang julung kalinya mara ke separuh akhir Kejohanan Piala Sudirman selepas kemenangan 3-2 ke atas Denmark, malam tadi.

Selepas Lee Chong Wei menebus kehampaan gandingan Fairuzizuan Tazari-Wong Pei Tty buat mengikat kedudukan 1-1, Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong mempamer aksi terbaik mereka di Gimnasium Guangzhou buat menjelmakan kelebihan negara.

Ianya bermula baik buat mereka apabila Thomas Laybourn-Kamilla Rytter Juhl menundukkan Fairuzizuan-Pei Tty 21-17, 24-22.

Jan O Jorgensen, sebagai pengganti Peter Gade, kemudiannya jelas bukan lawan Chong Wei yang menang mudah 21-11, 21-18.

Kunci kejayaan negara jelas dicipta Kien Keat-Boon Heong yang sama sekali memerangkap bekas juara dunia, Lars Paaske-Jonas Rasmussen, dengan persembahan kemas dalam laluan kemenangan 21-9, 21-14.

Mew Choo menampakkan betapa dia makin hampir ke tahap terbaiknya selepas tersisih sekian lama akibat kecederaan apabila langsung tidak membenarkan Jensen mengawal rentak permainan buat menang 21-8, 21-11.

Kekalahan Pei Tty-Chin Eei Hui - 10-21, 21-16, 11-21 kepada Rytter Juhl-Lena Frier Kristiansen, kemudiannya hanya pelengkap pertandingan.

Nicol intai juara skuasy Terbuka Texas

Nicol David

Temu Pakistan rebut tiket final

Celoteh Kepten Shafari - Hentam Kau!..Kau!

Captain Shafari Bakar

To Razlin, Lilian and all,

Well said by both Razlin and Lilian. 100 % agreed. Thank you.

To be frank, all these while, I was having the thought that most of us couldn’t bother much about Famemas. I was wrong because there are still some out there who are still very much attached. Thank you for the response and Famemas do need the members support.

At times it was just like a 1 way traffic…. it was like Capt saja yang mahu cakap and Capt is kapochi and so..so..so… I think it was more for Famemas that I pretended that my muka is “tebal” and kept on poking some issues… here and there… now and then…

My apologies to the Excos but please spare some thoughts on what I wrote. It was never my intention to be at all ‘makan-makan’ functions but I just like to be with Famemas members. Famemas is different from my other ‘kakis’. Whenever I am with you all, especially cheering … it was like releasing your tension that had been built up in you for some time… I can never shout at the fishing pond or at mamak shop or…but in the stadiums…. I couldn’t care. And my loneliness evaporates whenever I am with Famemas members shouting together…

So guys… we must try to keep Famemas active and alive at all times.

My other hidden intention….it is clearly being noticed by all…..hehehehe

Terima kasih Famemas.

Capt….still pondering.. should I continue or should I stop.

Celoteh Dorairaj - Hentam Kau!... Kau!

Mr. Dorairaj

Hi Li Lian...... Thank you for your kind thoughts. On behalf of Famemas club I sincerely thank you for your wise thoughts.

You said is all true...... when it comes to Sports activities after sending numerous sms and mails..... only the few norm members will come to support. But when you they are called for even Hari Raya gathering....... not many turn up. When we invite them for Majlis makan malam bersama Athletes of Malaysia....... sometimes they give us only 5 seats and that too would be informed last minute by whoever is the organizing...... when we invite other members other then the commitee....... they will say they are coming....but never turn up and give last minute calls that they this and that...... during that time sometimes 3 seats just go to waste....... because they do not turn up....... I have personally seen this happen. Its really upsetting the commitee as the seats could have ben given to someone who sincerely wants to be there.

During my last years of being a member I have seen that when to comes to events where its needs to be paid by members themselves...hardly most will turn up....... only the usual die hard members who have Famemas in their hearts are there to support. When it comes to events that is free....... a larger crowd can be seen.

Famemas club has just started growing and we the committee is doing all the best to make the club better for everyone. Now we are standing on our own and get we to meet often to find ways of making our club support on its own. I know most in the committe are spending money for the club without even claiming for it.... such as sending sms....printing material...... calls for sponsorship...... driving here and there looking for meet up with potential sponsors..... and even pay for food and event fees for other members who come and cannot pay. All these which is done by committee and is not appreciated. We are appointed by members to do our job and we are doing it to the very best.... but it takes time.....we cannot be a super club just overnite..... and all that depends on the members too...... if we dont have much support from them then how can we prove that our club is flying high in terms of popularity.

There have been events where all were notified..... guess how many turn up ? Only 4.... So where are the others? Frustrating and disappointing we still carry all the banners doing our job to popularise Famemas and recruit members. All these work is done on voluntary basis just for the love of the club...... we dont claim anything from the club. I love the club and I drive all the way pay for toll and petrol and parking fees.... just to be there to be at the organized event. If only all members have their hearts in Famemas our club would have been reached the peak long time ago. When many do not turn up I see the sadness in the committee faces..... I can see the diappointment.

Some members suddenly appear out of the blues and ask whats Famemas doing..... but we never ask then what have they been doing for Famemas. Believe me the committee is nothing without the members participating...... Until today only the normal few have helped the club in many ways...but the rest just sit there like a tourist and enjoy the tour and hardly give a helping hand to carry out some logistic matters. I am an old man doing what I can do for the club but I cannot do much and I really want the younger generation to come and give their hearts to bring Famemas to reach our objective and our goal and someday my only wish is Famemas will be in the hearts of every Malaysian in our country when I am not around anymore.

Regards to all my dearest Famemasians.
Forgive me If I made anyone uncomfortable.

Hi Famemasians,

Would also like to add further to some points made by Li Lian.

Yes the Exco were voted in by the members, and are the official faces of Famemas as certain organisations are concerned. Hence when seatings are limited, Excos should attend and mingle and build rapport and who knows, we may get help and support form these organisations.

Li Lian also has a point that when it comes to cheering, getting the numbers are also a challenge. However I'm sure that there are members (who don't hold any posts) who do not fail to turn up and provide support when required. These people should be given priority to attend makan-makan functions as well.

As for the runs and marathons.. the only running i do these days is to run away from work. hahaha.. OK la.. it's back to work for me <-- penat lari.

Byebye and take care.

Best regards,
Razlin Dawina

Lilian

Hi all Famemasians,

Since Jaya took time off all the way from far-away land to drop us a note, let me do so too. But short one. Won't be too long....

With regards to capten's comments about Exco attending the Sportsman of theyear award, well, I think that they should be there as they were the select few that we voted to represent us Famemasiams.... More importantly, it was most likely that the Exco invited the members to attend too, but as usual, most of them can't make it, didn't bother to reply, etc, etc. I'm sure we
all know what sort of excuses we give not to attend Famemas activities.

When it comes to fundamental things like going to stadium to cheer - semua sibuk, but comes to dinner with the stars - semua nak ikut. That's not right too...

Anyway, my 2 cents worth. I'm still glad that we have a great bunch of Exco to keep the club going.

And, members, we need to buck up (actually, speaking for myself le :p ..I've been so MIA for a while already) Also am very appreciative for the rest of the members who are consistent and always supportive of the club's activities. Without you, there's no famemas!!

Ok, change of subject. No marathons for me these few years. I have been so un-fit for the last year that I will collapse within 1 km, I'm sure. Ha ha.

Please ajak my husband to represent me ;p

Ok, back to work.

Have a good day ahead boys & girls.

Cheers.

Li Lian

Peluang Nicol Membalas Dendam

Nicol David
