Advanced Sport Management Course: 3rd Session (20th – 23rd August 2009)

The 3rd Session of the Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) 2009 ended very successfully with fourteen (14) participants returning to the Course and two (2) re-joining the Course after an absent of one session.

The participants were living the concept of the learning community as evidenced by their generous sharing of their experiences to help their colleagues in their learning task. There appeared to be greater realization and conviction that what they are learning is truly relevant and applicable in their job.

It could be seen through their presentations that the quality of their output is high and improving continuously. For example: Some of their case studies were comprehensive, met even and exceeded the required standards and their action plans were already being operated.

The facilitators felt that this group of participants would have some significant positive effect on the management of their organizations.

On 22nd August 2009, at around noon, YAM Tunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, President of OCM and IOC Member, dropped in at the Session of the Advanced Sport Management Course (ASMC) 2009. He gave words of encouragement to the participants and commented on the good facilities available and the arrangements made by OCM for the course. A group photograph was taken of the participants with the President of OCM.

Record for the Greatest Distance a Person can walk while balancing a Football on the Head

On Friday, 21st August 2009, starting at 8.00 a.m., Mr. Low Yee Ming, 18 years old, broke the Guinness Book of Record for the greatest distance a person can walk while balancing a football on the head, by walking a distance of 11.129.51 km, in a time of 2 hours 38 min. 47 sec. Mr. Low set the record at the Majlis Perbadanran Subang Jaya (MPSJ) Stadium. The old record of 4.444 km, was set a fortnight ago by a Mexican.

Mr. Low first attempted to break the Guinness Book of Record on 18th August 2009 at around 6.00 p.m. Unfortunately, due to poor weather conditions and strong wind, the football was blown off his head, after he had walked a distance 3.43 km. His second attempt on 21st August 2009, was successful.

In breaking the record, Mr. Low walked up and down the 100m course a total of 111 times. After making his 111th turn, he walked another 29.51 m before allowing the football to fall from his head, thus ending his great effort.

The 100m long course and the final 29.51 m were surveyed by a Chartered Surveyor firm. The lap scoring and timing of the walk was by official time-keepers from the Federal Territory Amateur Athletic Association. T.Bhg. Dato’ Yeoh Choo Hock, Vice President of the Malaysian Basketball Association and Dato’ Sieh Kok Chi, were the two witnesses.

The record set by Mr. Low will be submitted to the Guinness Book of Records for recognition.
