The th World Sport for All Conggress 2008

The 12th World Sport for All Congress 2008 willbe held in Genting Highlands in a week’s time and from 3rd to 6th November 2008. The 12th World Sport for AllCongress is organized by the Olympic Council of Malaysia under the patronage ofthe International Olympic Committee (IOC), in collaboration with the WorldHealth Organisation (WHO), the General Assembly of International Sports Federations (GAISF), and the IOC Sport for All Commission.

3rd Commonwealth Youth Games – 12th to 18th October 2008, Pune, India.

The Malaysian contingent consisting of 42athletes and 16 officials won a total of 13 medals with 3 golds, 4 silvers and6 bronzes, to emerged 7th in the Overall Medal Tally. 33 countriesout of 71 countries that took part won medals.

The gold medals were won by Arrico Jumith in weightlifting in the 62 kg boys’category. He lifted a total weight of 267 kg (119 kg snatch and 148 kg cleanand jerk) to set new Commonwealth Youth Games records, Mohd Hafifi Mansor inweightlifting in the 69 kg boys’ category with a total lift of 272 kg (snatch120, clean and jerk 152), which are also new Commonwealth Youth Games recordsand Ow Yao Han and Yew Hong Kheng in the boys’ Badminton doubles event.

Silver medals were won by shooters Nurfarah Afiqah Taufekh in girl’s 50 meter rifle prone, Alia Sazana Azhari in the girl’s25 meter pistol, and Muhamad Zubair Mohamad in boy’s 50 meter 3 positions andby the boys’ Badminton doubles team of Welson Lim Yu Sheng and Loh Wei Sheng.

Bronze medalists were Nur Ayuni Farhana Abdul Halim in the girl’s 10 meter Air Rifle shooting, Wahidah Ismail in girl’s 10meter Air Pistol, Khairul Ridhwan Ammeran in the girl’s 56 kg weightlifting,Abd Mubin Rahim in the boy’s 77 kg category, Nurliyana Kamaruddin in girl’shigh jump and Lim Ee Von and Ng Hui Ern in the girl’s badminton doubles.

The 4th Commonwealth Youth Games will be held in the Isle of Man from 7th to 13th September 2011. A total of seven sports will be offered,that are Athletics, Badminton, Boxing, Cycling, Gymnastics, Rugby 7’S, and Swimming.

1st Asian Beach Games

Malaysia participated in the 1st Asian Beach Games in Balifrom 18th to 26th October 2008, with a Contingentcomprising 44 male athletes and 26 female athletes, 24 male and 4 femaleofficials. The Malaysian Contingent competed in the following 12 sports, BeachKabaddi, Beach Pencak Silat, Beach Sepaktakraw, Beach Soccer, Beach Volleyball,Beach Basketball, Bodybuilding, Paragliding, Sailing, Triathlon, Woodball andWind Surfing.

The Malaysian Contingent medal tally was as follows: Woodball Team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 1 bronze medal, the men’sBeach Basketball team and the men’s Sepaktakraw inter-regu team won a bronzemedal each, while Pencak Silat team won 1 gold medal, 1 silver medal and 2bronze medals.

27th OCA Annual General Assembly 2008

The 27th OCA Annual General Assembly was held in Bali on 21st October 2008 atBali. OCM was represented by YAMTunku Tan Sri Imran ibni Tuanku Ja’afar, Cik Low Beng Choo and Dato’ Sieh KokChi.

International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Asian National Associations Meeting

Congratulationsto the Malaysian Ice Hockey Federation (MIHF) for successfully organising the InternationalIce Hockey Federation (IIHF) Asian National Associations Meeting, from 24th to 26th October 2008, at the Sunway Resort Hotel, Petaling Jaya.Representatives of 12 National Ice Hockey Federations from Asia attended theabove meeting. Mr Shoichi Tomita, Vice President of the International IceHockey Federation and Mr. Dave Fitzpatrick, Sport Director of IIHF were presentat the meeting.
